You lose posts, but they stay at their permalinks unless you delete the account completely. There will be a notice and link to your new account. You can download an archive of your posts for safekeeping.
Follows carry over through export/import. Will also force followers to unfollow the old account and follow the new one (if their software supports it). There is a limit to how often you can migrate to another instance.

- One e-mail pollutes 10g of CO2 each year (Cleanfox)
- One text message is less polluting, it emits 0,0014g of CO2 per message (NPR). But when you consider all of the text messages send each minute in the World, the carbon footprint is 16 800g of CO2 per minute
- A search on the web emits between 7g and 15g of CO2

@countstex Yup, that would make a lot of sense. Even setting an upload limit size for yourself would be interesting. Just to get a warning and become more aware.
Ha, likely it was and I forgot about that one. I remember talking about 640x400 instead because too much of the browser window (height) was riddled with toolbars.

The popular posts part was tied to the effects if you did not optimize images/videos but that could have been clearer. 😁
Something I love about the Fediverse is how it reminds you to be more mindful of limited resources.
For example, don’t make images to large, don’t upload big videos. They can really hog resources and popular posts can become intensive in way that lead to higher costs for servers.
Awareness creates carefulness which potentially makes the fediverse more environmentally friendly. We *should* care more about resource-efficiency when we use the web.

😊 Believe it or not I never had one of those. I went Sinclair ZX81 > Dragon 32 > Atari 600 XL
The Atari is what I had when all my friends did C64. But then after that I had the Atari STE for desktop publishing and making magazines, which was great.

I remember debates about choosing to design for desktop sizes of 800x600 pixels or 1024x768 pixels. And being limited to 216 colors.

I've now come across the diagram from my blog post with Mastodon tips in several places with no attribution and the source info deliberately cropped out of the picture.
People write "Oh I just found this somewhere" but no word on where they found it. Apparently it just appears on people's computers out of nowhere 😂
Anyway, I updated the diagram. And people who actually do quote the source will help people find updates in the future.
