Awesome workshop today with Jane Ruffino. Such a great way to tie together our knowledge of historical artefacts with the ethical implications of the digital artefacts we are creating. Our knowledge of people mistreated in the past can tell us a lot about how our decisions today will be judged by others in the future.
Bra exempel på en tjänst där jag tror man måste vara vaksam på vilka beteenden som värdesätts och vem som får tillgång till informationen. Att en stad poängsätter och för bok över goda medborgare kan ju också potentiellt leda i en oönskad riktning. Sättet på vilket vi bedömer och mitigerar potentiell negativ påverkan tror jag kommer bli centralt för design, i en framtid där goda gärningar har ett valutasystem som någon annan än jag själv kontrollerar. Varför till exempel hjälpa en äldre person över gatan när jag kan få mer poäng för att ta hem och ladda elskotern.
Jag tror det är värt att problematisera detta, inte bara rapportera som SVT gör.

Kudos to the trade school Nackademin, with a shoutout to Mikael Boman and the advisory team, for making it possible for two weeks of discussing and learning (together) about ethics in design. And how we can mitigate potential negative impact.
These UX students are awesome and I've already learnt so much from them today. Any company would be lucky to hire them.

I've decided to support the Correspondent. It's set to become an English-language version of the Dutch platform De Correspondent. They're changing how news is made, what it's about and how it's funded. They need to reach 2.5 million USD within 70 hours though (currently at 2.2 million), so now is the time to figure out if you believe in their idea and want to become a founding member. I made a pledge of $25.
As with any kickstarter, if they don't make the target you don't pay anything.

Yesterday evening I was invited to speak at the brilliant and growing meetup group #t12t in Stockholm. Over a hundred people gathered to share insights and thinking around the topic of digital accessibility.
I spoke about Sweden's sordid history, the difficulty of human communication and the problems with words. I gave Aristotle a kick in the butt as well. As always, here are my slides shared online.

"Finally, an inflated ego narrows our vision. The ego always looks for information that confirms what it wants to believe. Basically, a big ego makes us have a strong confirmation bias. Because of this, we lose perspective and end up in a leadership bubble where we only see and hear what we want to. As a result, we lose touch with the people we lead, the culture we are a part of, and ultimately our clients and stakeholders."
Coming out of a fantastic World Usability Day I can now announce that I will be speaking and giving a workshop at World IA Day in Switzerland 22-23rd of February.
The global theme for World IA Day 2019 is Design for Difference.

The conference website is live and I can reveal that in a few weeks I will be heading to Manaus in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. I will be doing a talk at the conference, as well as a workshop at one of the Samsung R&D institutes in Brazil, SIDIA. Both will be around the topic of design ethics and a design process to maximize positive impact.

Which is a fancy schmancy way of saying "it doesn't look like what it's supposed to do, it looks like it does something else".
We designers have an amazing toolset for excluding people...
Jared Spool always pushing us to do better. In this interview we talk to Jared about a higher level of design maturity: infused design, which essentially means that the whole premise of user-centric design is everyone's responsibility, whether they have "designer" on their business card or not. Because everything affects the experience.
The theme for #WorldUsabilityDay on November 8 is Good or Evil, which obviously feels close to heart for me. I will be speaking in Stockholm at Sthlm Xperience Conference - my talk is called: "Don’t Feed the Designers After Midnight".
And the awesome Pamela Pavliscak will be keynoting with her talk "How to Create a Future with Feeling"!

Jag har i helgen uppdaterat min kostnadsfria e-bok Digital tillgänglighet: en introduktion till WCAG.
Tidigare hade jag dokumenterat det preliminära utkastet av WCAG 2.1. När det släpptes hade man dock kastat om var dessa nya kriterier låg i den stora strukturen. Inga kriterier har alltså varit felskrivna i min e-bok men de har legat på fel ställen i förhållande till hur de sedan placerades i slutversionen av WCAG 2.1. Nu ligger de rätt.
Jag har också
* Numrerat varje kriterium så att man lättare hittar motsvarande kriterium (med motsvarande numrering) i den engelska versionen om man vill fördjupa sig mer.
* Lagt till ord och begrepp i ordlistan.
Jag är tacksam för all positiv återkoppling jag får och är glad att boken används. Sprid den gärna till fler. Tveka inte heller om att be mig förtydliga något område eller ifrågasätta exempel. Det är bara att mejla mig på per@axbom.se. Jag har själv hittat ett par småfel som måste åtgärdas.
