@saptaks This is a fair concern. Right now I'm trying to see opportunity more than hindrances, which there undoubtedly will be many.
But I am aware of the friction within the dev leadership.
Hoping more community involvement can make a difference and move the platform in a better direction.
But I've been too naive before 😬

One way of rolling your own instance is paying someone to do it for you.

Another way of running your own instance is of course by installing Mastodon yourself on your own server.

@evijitghosh The check is done when you save the profile. I don’t think it actually ”re-tries” at regular intervals. So I think you actually have to edit your profile and first remove the links, save, and then add them back and save again.

There has recently been a huge rush of people trying out Mastodon. This is also noticeable in the number of people reading my earlier Mastodon Guide. I wanted to take this opportunity to provide a brief list of usage tips that I wish I had at hand when first setting up my Mastodon home.

@nemobis Sorry, I believe my use of the word ”reply” will have confused people.
The idea was that if you write a thread of 5 toots, you set toots 2-5 as unlisted. Then only the initial toot will appear in feeds, but you can click through to see all of them.
My understanding was that setting a toot as Unlisted would have the effect that you are looking for.
@tivasyk @HunterZ I feel I may have confused people a bit with how I worded that. I don't mean that people who reply should set their replies as unlisted (necessarily). Rather, if a person writes a thread of 5 toots, they can set toots number 2-5 as unlisted. Then people will see the first toot but not the rest in their feeds. Which in many cases will make more sense.
@tivasyk @HunterZ But the correct response to your question is that anything that is public will be visible once you view any toot in the thread. That goes for all the toots in the thread and any replies from other people.
