An etiquette tidbit I just learned from @HunterZ
When you write threads, you can set the visibility of all the reply posts to "Unlisted". This way all the non-initial posts won't flood user timelines in reverse chronological order (and interspersed between others' toots), which can confuse. People will just see the initial post and upon clicking that see the whole thread.
I will try to remember this. But I will obviously also forget at times.
Something to consider is @mastohost and perhaps the Star plan. i.e. set a limit of 100 people on it to start. It's priced at $19/month. You can use any domain name you want with this as well.
I've used masto host twice before running my own server and have been very impressed with the speed and support.
You'd likely want to limit signups so there will be a bit of work reviewing who gets to be on it but I think you already have a good idea 😊

Given what @karlhigley wrote about moderation (a relevant point) you could go for an instance with max 20 people, all of who you know, and share the cost of $9/month. There would hopefully be very little moderation needed.
Or just roll your own for one person. My Local feed is just me. 😁

@PavelASamsonov There's a delete and re-draft function that is quite nice for these circumstances. It deletes but also pre-fills your whole post as it was so you can make your edits and quickly post again.
I find myself using it every week.

@scottmatter Thanks Scott! That is key isn't it. The risk is that someone will migrate from one tool to another, hoping to find something that is the "ideal" version of what they are leaving. And then be disappointed.
Also, I believe people aren't used to having to "learn something new" in this space. But I remember how difficult Twitter was to understand even as a concept in the beginning.
It's always a good idea to keep your expectations in check. 😅

@Coffee It's also possible to set your toot language when posting. At least in the web interface. Some apps sadly don't support this.
But yeah, I get your message and completely agree. Just wanted to take the opportunity to remind anyone reading of the benefits of setting the language of your toot. It enables filtering and people using screen readers will get the right voice and pronunciation. And no flags needed…

Another find from my ongoing digital housekeeping. A visual joke I remember laughing so hard at and haven't come across in years.
Doing a lot of digital housekeeping these days. Cleaning up my old Flickr account and found this development model I designed back in 2011.
It's not a unique take content-wise but I'm quite pleased with the visual style. Instead of a "diamond", or circles, or instead I made the arrows between stages create the outline of four ducks in a row.
I wonder why it didn't get more traction. 😂

It really bugs me that I e-mailed World Ethical Data Forum and told them about the dangerous flashing animations on their start page...
and they didn't even respond. Much less remove the troubling content.
World Ethical Data Forum autoplays a video at the top of their page that can trigger photosensitive epileptic seizures.
With this description I'm not sure we mean the same thing with "the mobile version". In my phone I use my web browser to visit the website. That is often what I mean with the mobile version. In this mobile view I can edit my profile.
My understanding is that you're referring to an app installed on your phone? When it comes to Mastodon there are many apps available, albeit one official app.
But yes, you can't always edit your profile in mobile apps. I myself avoid all Mastodon apps. 😁
