⚠️ Client frustration rant
A many-years client contract is ending in December. A person on the client side has booked a meeting for skills transfer of the making of video tutorials I sometimes help them with.
Sure, I will convey 3 years of studying communication science and 10 years of video creation in, how much time did you have for this, oh yeah: 45 minutes.
Also, you do not have access to, nor the budget to procure, any of the tools? Excellent.
You can tell how motivated I am right now…

I have this weird enormous sense of responsibility that kicks in when I know I am in a position to help people.
So just this morning I was looking at possibilities to build a Mastodon app.
Need to slap myself to get out of these delusions sometimes, before they consume me.
Helping is great but I need to better gauge my own limits.
And perhaps turn my attention to paying clients this week. 😬

This past weekend my intent was to take a tech break. That didn’t go well. There were too many questions that “needed” answering.
Obviously I have a huge fear of letting people down or not responding in time.
This fabricated sense of urgency in communication can be harmful, I know.
I’ve applied a mindset for email of not needing to respond the same day.
Still some work in applying the same mindset to social media. Why I left those other platforms wasn’t just about algorithms...

If you were recommending someone buy a domain name, what registrar would you direct them to, and why?
Preferably one that can set them up with a landing page as well, to get them started as smoothly as possible.
Another aspect is ease-of-use of any control panel that they offer.

I just presented a lunch seminar on consent in digital settings.
One piece of advice I had at the end of the session is to practice these learnings when people want to record online meetings.
Usually these days people ask “can you record the meeting?” and the moderator says “everyone ok with this?”. Upon which participants are silent and the moderator presses record.
This is not consent. In so many ways. A yes in that situation isn’t consent either.
