Vårfrudagen literally means Our Lady Day and is a Swedish variant for Annunciation Day, also marking beginning of planting season. A garbling of “vårfru” to “våffel” means it’s also Waffle Day and we eat waffles. In English, waffle also means to speak or write vaguely. 🤯
In a previous version of this tweet I translated "vår" to spring (the seasons) which is formally correct but very wrong in this context. Our Lady Day it is, and Miriam was thankfully quick to correct me.
