The children mining cobalt so that we can enjoy the benefits of the lithium batteries in our phones, laptops and cars. I think this is what I find the hardest to reconcile with in our rush to digitize the world.

I will add this and/or a similar video to the curriculum of my Digital Ethics course. I believe it’s increasingly important to understand the material required for digital products. I want to create more safe spaces and time to talk about these issues.
The majority of cobalt demand is for lithium batteries, and demand for cobalt is expected to surpass supply by 2025. 55-60% of the world supply is coming out of DR Congo.
