I keep seeing the opinion this wasn't a coup attempt.
1. The mob included militia and police incited by a president.
2. Extreme violence was planned and occurred.
3. Their goal was to prevent democratic transfer of power.

Gallows are not built outside the Capitol on a whim. There were pipe bombs, molotov cocktails, flex cuffs, weapons galore and calls for execution.
