A few minutes ago I made up a word I’ve needed. ”Search online” is neutral but people don’t get why I don’t say ”google”. So now I’m saying:
”I swoogled it.”
Swoogle = Search without google.
There I go thinking I’m clever… Ha! There was actually a search engine named Swoogle!! SW stood for ’semantic web’.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swoogle
That’s gone though, so I’m still adopting it.

@Shrinkwrap37 Oh wow, now I’ve swoogled it (searched without google). I thought you were talking about a type of bean.
This I have to try.

@Shrinkwrap37 It would’ve been fun if I started the talk while out on a coffee run. Have to try that some time. In the right context. :)
Doing a talk for 120 people in 90 minutes and here I am in my pajamas. The world is weird.
Okay. Priorities. Coffee.

Thank you for the good-lucks and well-wishes friends. I really needed that today I realise. Not only the world is weird… we sometimes don’t recognise ourselves - and that can be daunting.
In the end they were 198(!) people and maxed out their company meeting account. So much fun, great feedback and great discussions around digital ethics and accessibility. Good way to start the day.

@EinsteinsAttic @ikitorp @privacyint @commento_io @adtac_ I was e-mailing him in November December without response. But thanks for pinging him.
So I added the Commento commenting platform to my blog in November because I liked the focus on privacy. But it’s impossible to get hold of a human there. Or THE human as I think it’s a one-man show.
What are some other privacy-conscious commenting platforms?
The only redeeming feeling of discovering and reading many ancient and cringeworthy drafts in my blog platform is that I actually was sensible enough not to publish some of them.

@thomaswoodcock This is fair. My tweet though was intended to emphasise that the distinction is not obvious (many I talk to equate them) but it is clearly there.
Unless ethics is used to reason and advise on how one can mitigate harm (I don't see it as rules), I find it hard calling it ethics.
Ethics is not the law. The law is not ethics.
Many things were unethical long before they became unlawful.
Making certain actions unlawful also protects evildoers.
Many things that are lawful hurt and harm and oppress people every day.
The work will never be done. Keep at it.
First mindmap after reading through #Clubhouse's terms and privacy docs. Feels like a lot is missing, such as specific subprocessors/affiliates and GDPR. Also wondering about the 18yo limit but they still harvest phone numbers from under 18s. No age check at all when signing up.

@LouShackleton @leannemgriff @rufflemuffin Yes, so much going on, not finished yet. Being interviewed tomorrow on the app's privacy issues (sharing address book). But I have interacted with deaf users who use the platform with their own tech setup:

What are 'reasonable commercial efforts'?

1. Last week I got this question from a consultancy: "Is it really necessary with Help functionality for this medical application? It is our assessment that UI should be built so a Help function is not needed."
I'm glad it wasn't asked to my face because I wanted to scream.
2. There are many people with both temporary and permanent cognitive impairments who need help in getting started and reminded. People with vision loss and a variety of neurological disorders are often helped by clear guidance and explanations.
3. Saying it should be "simple enough for no help to be required" unfortunately puts on display a lack of understanding for a broader population and the various needs of different people. Without help functionality fewer people will be able to use your service.
4. Once again for the people in the back: some people being able to use your service without help does not mean everyone can. Be careful who you test with.
Of course, designing that help functionality is another story.
