I read a lot of manifestos for ethical design. I think the most common weakness is the absence of this sentiment:
* Seek outside counsel.
We can never properly anticipate risks and impact without talking to people who know better. The people at risk.

This is hugely important. The way Apple are releasing information bit by bit allows them to continuously reframe, making it seem as if critics are confused - when they truly are not.

I keep seeing Apple say their phone's are the same globally, not different by country. In the same breath they say on-device detection will be rolled out first in the US. Meanwhile: FaceTime was blocked in Saudi Arabia. And lots of compromise in China:

@worldsayer This is very true, and expected, on a per-individual basis, but I feel should be less expected on an organisational level where many people collaborate and processes are put in place to avoid mistakes. But I do realise this is also a reflection of culture and ability to speak up.
Releasing three different surveillance functions at the same time, using different technologies and for different purposes, is a rookie mistake in communication strategy; inevitably leading to confusion. The question is if one believes that Apple makes rookie mistakes like that.
Loving "The Movies That Made Us" series on Netflix. Mostly for how obvious it makes the point that you can not predict success. But yeah, also for the revelations about certain actors.

Thing to remember: pausing cloud syncs (Dropbox et al) before export from Dashlane, since it’s an unencrypted file. And then delete after import (and empty bin). Notes and passports didn’t import, so I’ll do those manually.
