@muppetaphrodite Really awesome talk. Thank you. Loved the attention to solving the right problem, pursuing the truth and highlighting problem areas. Also all the cartooning/sketching insights. š #ixd18

Darth Vader greeting me in my hotel room. I have to say thatās a first. #IxD18
And note the brand of the hotel TV.

The fact that #IxD18 has its own sign at the airport is pretty darn impressive.

Ok I made the mistake of walking to the train thinking I could buy a ticket on the platform. Single tickets on the train are ā¬19.90 while theyāre ā¬14.70 in the ticket hall. Donāt follow my lead. :)

@ixdconf haha, thank you. I was trying to figure out how to see the TGV timetable in the app but gave up after a while.
@ixdconf I mostly just loved the word ātheorethicalā.
Downloaded the RhĆ“nexpress app and am learning that āthe times are theorethical [sic]ā :) #IxD18

@jmcquarrie But is this deception or just meeting expectations? Providing people enough time to adjust to changes is what I would refer to as positive friction.
Just to be clear I wasnāt endorsing the term ābenevolent deceptionā in that tweet. ;)
One for the glossary: ābenevolent deceptionā. š¤ x.com/chenoehart/staā¦
To be clear: I am not endorsing this term. I think itās dangerous. It builds the narrative that deception is sometimes the preferred modus operandi.
It is sometimes preferred that changes in an interface take longer to play out than is technically possible, but that has to with meeting user expectations. Itās just good design.
We could add links to all pages on the homepage, but we donāt. Thatās design, not deception.
My term for this is āpositive frictionā. It is friction we add to empower and help people make better decisions.
A āfakeā progress bar is also not a favorite method of mine. There are other ways to communicate work performed and waiting time without necessarily opting for the illusion of a start and end calculation. A spinning loader gif being the most simple example.
Just getting my bearings sketched out for #IxD18. Birdās-eye view of locations, including community dinners.
