I truly believe that helping people build resilience towards external pressure from others, allowing them to pursue their own individual strengths and beliefs, will set them down the path of sustainable and fulfilling lives contributing to positive impact.

Reducing lives to numbers in the name of efficiency. Humanity’s recipe for negative impact.
I’ve just watched another video from a factory farm. I don’t share or retweet these here because that’s not how I want to influence. But the emotional turmoil just knocks me out.

@rimm I love how I immediately retweeted your tweet without thinking. 😂 Also, thanks for that clarifying summary.
Remember when we used to add ”RT” manually to indicate a re-tweet? Imagine how much that tiny bit of friction actually discouraged the sharing of false stories. Because it added thinking to the process. And it made you own the tweet, as the source on your timeline.

Thoroughly enjoyed The End of the F***ing World on @Netflix. I like creative work that forces me to think.

Had to leave for the airport yesterday and missed @LeylaAcaroglu's ending keynote. Watching it now. Thank you @ixdconf for enabling this.❤️
And thank you Leyla.

1/ Yes, ethics is important but can also be misleading. Delighted the #designethics discussion is truly under way but be aware that "ethics theory" can be used to motivate any number of different paths. We need to be better at focusing on evaluating the IMPACT of our decisions.
2/ So, rather than talking/arguing about what is the ethical path and start running down it, I believe there needs to be greater consensus on what impact we are striving for, what we want to AVOID, and HOW we will keep an eye on it to MANAGE it over time.
#designethics
3/ That then being, ironically, the only ethical path I will agree to ;)
4/ Honestly, I tend to give the advice that people avoid the word ethics when they want to make a difference inside orgs, as it triggers any number of different connotations that inhibit conversation. Better: talk about how we can best avoid contributing to harm.
5/ The greater challenge is creating a broader understanding of all the different ways both people and planet can be harmed by design. And that, in my mind, is something we all need to start helping each other with. Through better listening.
