Are there outspoken people who regularly get harassed, get rape threats, and whose families are threatened, who also speak in favor of social media platforms?
Your regular checklist:
1. Who is in the room?
2. Whose voice is being heard?
3. Whose voices are not being heard?
I am aware of the many benefits of social media platforms, but I want real conversations around vulnerable people who are getting hurt and real talk around what benefits make that suffering worth it.
The real issue:
To what extent is harm exacerbated by digital services?
To what extent are vulnerable voices silenced by way of online services? How resilient to harassment do you need to be to benefit from digital media? What education, or help, do you need to be able to question the assertions made by news outlets and ads?
