1/ One of my role models for 13 years(!) has been @LeeLefever. Primarily for the inspiration that @CommonCraft videos has provided in the form of encouraging me to provide further value to my clients through explainer videos. And through the book The Art of Explanation.

2/ So I follow Lee on Twitter obviously but must say I haven’t really noticed his tweets the past few years. Until yesterday when I clicked on one of his shares of an article referencing the 26th anniversary(!) of Pulp Fiction. Of course I had to read that. x.com/leelefever/sta


3/ It wasn’t until after I read the article that I realised whose tweet I had clicked on and being of curious nature I clicked my way to Lee’s website. That’s where I discovered his new book Big Enough - Building A Business That Scales With Your Lifestyle.

4/ It’s uncanny how much this book resonated with me. It’s about understanding the power you have over defining what value is when you run your own small business (hint: it doesn’t have to be about growth).

5/ So I immediately bought the book, started reading and fell asleep yesterday having read 75% of it. Most of the messages are not new to me but I feel like this book entered my life at exactly the right moment, which means it can be hugely powerful in redefining my business.

6/ Anyway, if you see my pivoting within the next six months, now you know why. And thank you Lee for all this inspiration.

Serendipity FTW.

7/ And obviously, having a French bulldog on the cover may have had an emotional effect. Just maybe ;)

1/ If you see the hashtag #EndSARS this does not refer to SARS-Cov-2 but to the police brutality, abuse and terror by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Nigeria.

3/ The hashtag on social media changed at one point from #EndSARS to #SARSMustEnd. With the forming of a new unit Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) to replace SARS, the hashtag for the protests also included #EndSWAT.

4/ Worried now that Internet will be shut down in Nigeria in a government effort to mute the protests, prevent collaborative efforts and make the witness stories invisible to the outside world.

1/ Starting a thread of simple warmup exercises in workshops that help people get started using an online whiteboard. It’s important to me to strive for exercises that are simple, playful, inviting and not intimidating.

Always help people feel safe.

2/ A floor plan to allow participants to move an icon - representing themselves - between rooms. People can show they are in a meeting, in the break (then back from the break), have stepped out, left the meeting or are feeling done with an exercise. I help when people forget.

3/ Each participant has to write their name on a sticky note and place it in the room - of this pictured cartoonish cross-section of a house - that best represents where they are currently sitting. Also builds sense of togetherness.

4/ Use weather symbols to encourage people to mark what the weather is like where they are and/or mark what symbol matches how they are feeling right now. Don’t mandate explaining or disclosing who’s who, but allow feedback for anyone who wants to share.

5/ Offer an illustrated canvas with different film genres and have people pinpoint their favourites. Maybe ask them to name a favourite movie if they’re up for it.

6/ Caption this. As people join the meeting/workshop, have an image on screen and ask participants to come up with a caption. Can turn out hilarious if you're lucky, and is never boring.
