@jmspool I believe we can avoid confusion by talking about ”harmful design” rather than ”dark patterns”. It is harmful regardless of intent. We can then gauge moral intent by:

1. what effort was made to avoid harm
2. the response/act once the harm is known

@jmspool ”Dark patterns” is then just a way of categorizing common themes among the harmful designs.

Or what say you, @harrybr ?

@sarahtgold I was gonna go for a ”yes” as well 😀. I am keen to see what companies will be fined first come April 14. It’s like the examples of negative impact are just popping up all over these days.

@sarahtgold There is a focus on military operations now but I hope the risks are also made clear about other misuse, e.g. stalkers, or data from trackers being used in a court of law.
