@olivia.science: Please consider not saying that some AI models or some statistical models are good, useful, beneficial, whatever else positive, in science if it's not your research area. It's ok not to know things. It's ok not to both side things. It's ok to ask colleagues who are experts.

Dreaming of inventing a hardware device that people can buy, start up and will run a server that can host your web presence in the form of a personal fedi instance, a ATProto PDS, a Ghost blog, document management, maybe even email and more, on a custom domain. A pre-installed plug-and-play VPS.
True, they control the Bluesky app and infrastructure (and relay). And they could block me. But they can't touch my data. And if they block me my data is safe and I can still log into other at proto apps.
if Bluesky dies my data lives on, including all posts and connections.
If I am on mastodon.social and that service dies, my posts and connections are gone. If I migrate from one instance to another in the Fediverse, my posts are gone and so is my username.
The potential of ATProto is intriguing.

After moving to Eurosky I've realised the logical next step is to run my very own personal data server, giving me even more independence and control over my own data.
Reading this post from @brent.atproto.bront.rodeo and it seems ridiculously easy.

In other news, I just used the edit button on mu.social to edit one of my "Bluesky/Eurosky" posts. When you use mu.social rather than bsky.app you have an edit button for your post for 5 minutes after posting. Love seeing variations in these AT Proto clients.
I really have to write up a guide to the Atmosphere so I have somewhere to point when people ask me what that is, and why I say Eurosky or AT Proto - when they obviously see me on BlueskyâŠ
For now I'll say Atmosphere is like the Fediverse, but with AT Proto instead of ActivityPub.
I'd say it's more of a social media/influencer/marketing space now. So -> many connections gives you more reach. And there are quite a few people who left Twitter but never made it to Bluesky/Atmosphere or Fediverse, using LinkedIn as their microblog.
I've moved my AT Proto data from Bluesky to Eurosky, all hosted in Europe. My followers/following and all posts are intact. My username remains the same as I'm using my own domain.
An invisible step for my contacts, a big step for independent social media and data ownership.
I can keep using Bluesky, and you can interact with me, just as before the data moved. I can also use my Eurosky account to log in to many other AT Proto apps.
These apps of course also work if you stay with Bluesky for data management.
Now if I log into Bluesky I just have to remember to specify eurosky.social as the server ââ it's a good idea to keep track of where your data lives. đ
Or, instead of Bluesky, I can interact with all my Bluesky pals via *mu*, a social application by Eurosky for reading, posting, and following conversations across the open social web.
None of my Bluesky friends need to know which app I am using.
