@carriehd Thanks! My focus is on trying to find something that is as inclusive, and safe, as is possible online.
Suppose I want to manage public groups where participants can be from all over (you don't know them beforehand). Further criteria: Not Slack/Facebook/LinkedIn. Preferably an option for application and approval process.
What is there?
When you hustle to a meeting to show your dedication, even though you're travelling later and maybe should have skipped it, and it was cancelled via e-mail 30 mins prior to when it was supposed to start.

@janeruffino No, the "we" was referring to us white men. I couldn't possibly begin to understand the obstacles you encounter, but I do appreciate having you in my network, showing me how my reality is misconstrued and how some of my actions and behavior contribute to the status quo or worse.

@janeruffino True, and if we want to see ourselves as allies in this shift we need to better understand what we are doing wrong and what we are (maybe) doing right. Calling on myself, as a person who takes up a lot of bandwidth, to find better ways of passing the mic.

@janeruffino Good point. I think my tweet was born out of so many industry voices stating certain ways of working as factually the best way. And yes, predominantly white men.
@janeruffino And the fact that this is what I, as a white man, realize I must force myself to do. Because my capacity for risk assessment sucks.

Every once in a while it's healthy to assume that everything you've been doing up until now is wrong, and then try to disprove that theory.
The most valuable, precious loving thing you can give someone is your attention. Be generous with attention and make sure you're giving it to someone who deserves it.

I have a wonderful idea for a new online application. Gonna call it "Chunky" here so I'll remember what it is.
I’ve done that thing again where I do a search where really old tweets pop up. And then I start liking those tweets and it creeps people out...

@naynerz @cydharrell @kimgoodwin One could probably argue that they are learned, or even internalized at that early age, and then subsequent teachings and cicumstances systematically break down - more or less - the ability to distinguish between benevolent and maleficent.
Yesterday I knocked my glasses off my motorbike (were on the seat) and onto a busy road. Rode 2 mins before noticing. Took me 10 mins to circle back. Found them neatly placed on a ledge by a kind stranger - whole and not scratched. Had the universe on my side yesterday.

Reminded me of the ”Keep Calm and Rape A Lot” t-shirts on Amazon. A regular reminder that algorithms won’t care about your well-being. Ironically, most humans would lose their jobs over stuff like this. Now managers can blame the algorithms and ignore accountability. twitter.com/steveportigal/status/1…
