After tweeting about hidden cameras this news story seemd apt to end the day on. Suspicions of surveillance software hidden inside the cameras themselves.
Would you be extra keen to act on suspicions like this if you yourself use similar techniques?🤔

@schoeyfield @multikev 👍 There is an overarching problem of intellectual debt, as coined by @zittrain in his New Yorker piece. We are adopting technology first and figuring out function later. That we ”measure internet traffic” for trustworthiness relates to this, in my mind.

The value I bring clients is primarily around coaching them into confidence, helping them question their assumptions and cheering them on as they grow and act on their strengths.
They mostly think they are buying journey maps and wireframes.
Last week I was speaking internally at a company, saying we need to be honest about
1 What we know about people is less than we'd like to know.
2 What people do is not always what we want them to do.
3 What we do has different effects than our intentions.
Honesty begets change.

Everybody should make time to listen to this interview with Edward Snowden. In this 1 hour and 47 minute Recode show, Kara Swisher does a really good job of pushing him to answer relevant questions.

@per_p So in hotels you feel confident there are no cameras? :)
I’ve never stayed at an Airbnb.
When you arrive, how much time do you spend looking for hidden cameras and microphones? Does your behavior change if you suspect they are there? Do you ask about this in conversation with the host?
Ha, just more questions popping into my head...
In my dystopian thinking I imagine there are hidden cameras hosting private video channels that people can subscribe to for watching Airbnb guests go about their business.
Imagining hundreds or thousands of people watching unsuspecting reality tv stars get ready for bed.
Do you think Airbnb has the resources to protect people from this? I mean, it’s another one of those ”if users report it, we’ll consider taking action.” Because sure, it’s adressed in the terms of service that hosts accept.

Of course, now there are checklists you can follow to try and find cameras.

5. Here are four items pictured that you can buy on Amazon right now, and they all have a hidden camera built in.
- An alarm clock
- A wall clock
- A fire alarm
- A USB wall charger
(yeah this is tweet 5 in what I realized became a thread)

6. Security expert Carrie Kerskie: ”Anytime we travel, whether it’s in a hotel or we’re in an Airbnb... first thing I do with all the clocks, especially on the nightstands in the bedrooms, I just unplug them and put them in a drawer.”

7. Should we worry? Worry can stall us. I want people to be aware. There may not be maleficent intent. But there needs to be trust. The question is how we get there.
Changing our behavior in spaces that should be safe is not the right future path.

@AlexisCorbin @Snowden @Recode @karaswisher The link I provided was in no way iPhone-specific though :) Quite the contrary, I encourage sharing of podcast links that work on all platforms. Soundcloud is nice but far from all podcasts are on there, which is why I tend to recommend Overcast.

What are the best invite/RSVP services online (for free events) that are not part of a social media platform that all people do not have an account on?
I mean, I can do an online search, but would love suggestions of ones you've used more than once and happily recommend.
The observation that certain disabilities are prevalent in a small portion of the population, is not a reason to ignore them in digital design.
The fact that you can take them into account is a reason to celebrate.
Today while recording our outro for our @beckulah interview (out next week), @beantin and I talked about the benefits of pair design. Of course I had to point out that I'm always Per designing.
