Labyrint-spelet fyller 80 i år. Jäklar vad många timmar av min barndom jag la på detta ändå.

(A Swedish invention, the Labyrinth game, is 80 years old this year.)

This! 👇

@shannonvallor.bsky.social: I was in two intensive week-long workshops this year with neuroscientists, philosophers and computer scientists and not *one* thought LLMs are conscious, or that anything is ‘mysterious’ in a model trained on scifi and Internet chat doing woo-woo musing about self-consciousness. And do you know why?

Been working on and off for a week on a graphic outlining Harms of the AI Ecosystem. Excited to soon share it in a newsletter / blog post, but here is a sneak peek 😊

Still some tweaks, tests and details before I feel it's ready.

#AIEthics #DigitalEthics #DigitalHarms

Infographic titled 'Harms of the AI Ecosystem' and with a big "DRAFT" message across the page. Various topic areas are spread out across the page on small islands with a symbol/illustration of each topic:

Data theft
Data generation bias
Implementation bias
MIneral mining
Data center growth (Energy use, Water extraction, Noise pollution, Land use, Inflation)
Data workers
Surveillance culture (State, Employer, Industry, Bad actors)
AI Boosters
Gated access
Moral muddling
Info pollution
Deskilling
Deepfake abuse
Invisible judgment (Jobs, Housing, Benefits, Justice)
Data loss
Tech oligarchy
Electronic waste

Thank you! On my end I'm seeing my profile pic so I had no idea others weren't seeing it. Will take a look, thanks!

In other news, I just used the edit button on mu.social to edit one of my "Bluesky/Eurosky" posts. When you use mu.social rather than bsky.app you have an edit button for your post for 5 minutes after posting. Love seeing variations in these AT Proto clients.

I really have to write up a guide to the Atmosphere so I have somewhere to point when people ask me what that is, and why I say Eurosky or AT Proto - when they obviously see me on Bluesky…

For now I'll say Atmosphere is like the Fediverse, but with AT Proto instead of ActivityPub.

I'd say it's more of a social media/influencer/marketing space now. So -> many connections gives you more reach. And there are quite a few people who left Twitter but never made it to Bluesky/Atmosphere or Fediverse, using LinkedIn as their microblog.

För tolv år sedan byggde jag en sajt på engelska om hur man röstar i Sverige. Skulle behöva faktakolla den för att se om något väsentligt ändrats. OM du gillar sån't här och har koll på alla regelverk är du välkommen att ta en titt.

Fresh LinkedIn hell. Apparently now people can invite you to follow(!!!) - so they're not asking to be a contact. When you click Accept, you follow them but they don't follow you.

At first glance these don't look different from regular LinkedIn contact requests.

Screenshot from the invitations view on LinkedIn, with blurred personal details: X is inviting you to follow because you engaged with their content. Buttons: Ignore | Accept.

What fresh LinkedIn hell is this?! Under Invitations:

"X is inviting you to follow because you engaged with their content." [Accept]

INVITING YOU TO FOLLOW?!
They don't even want to be a contact.

Screendump with masked names. X is inviting you to follow because you engaged with their content. X and 1 other mutual connection. Buttons: Ignore/Accept

@jon @Vivaldi @brucelawson Love the video, but the message would of course be more on point by not using big tech for publishing a "Big Tech? Big NO" sentiment.

I used Google Workspace for many years. I've finally switched everything over to Proton and I couldn't be happier (and way more in control).

Did you know Proton these days has online meetings, a password manager, VPN and its own authenticator? Oh yeah, and storage and calendar and docs and sheets.

But that's just one platform - albeit an important one for email. There are better alternatives for pretty much all big tech these days.

On that note, when it comes to social media you may have seen me write about the Fediverse before. I'll soon also be writing a bit more about the Atmosphere. I love it when open protocols come together and new ecosystems grow to make possible more autonomy, independence and safety.

Now that Eurosky can hold all my Bluesky data, and there are more and more services that are part of the Atmosphere (the AT Protocol counterpart to the Fediverse), I'm again excited about the potential for more people to break away from big tech social media.

I do feel even new apps on the Atmosphere have more appealing (more user-friendly?) user interfaces than apps generally do in the Fediverse. Not sure why that is.

I moved my Bluesky account to Eurosky just the other day. Still takes some new thinking around instances that many will feel are confusing - but I keep followers, follows and posts across the board, which I feel is a step up from migrations in the Fediverse.

Sometimes I'm struck by how deeply dehumanizing it is to liken machine function with the wonder of personhood.
