Learning about the cyber security concept of threat hunting, i.e. not waiting for threats to appear but to proactively hunt them down before they reach your systems.

Thinking that this is what #designethics needs as well: harm hunting. Let's not wait for people to complain.

And what we don't want is people thinking "This makes me feel bad but it's probably just me..." or "I don't know how to let people know how bad I feel about this..."

Recognize that many people won't complain as they won't feel empowered or entitled to let their voice be heard.

Which highlights the very important point that we must as designers also empower people to be able to speak up when they are negatively impacted by design solutions.

And then truly listen to that feedback.

”When you’re running anything like Facebook, you get criticized all the time, and you stop paying attention to criticism if it’s not well founded [...] It also puts you out of touch with genuine criticism from people who actually understand the issues.” newyorker.com/magazine/2018/…

«Zuckerberg used to rave about the virtues of “frictionless sharing,” but these days Facebook is working on “imposing friction” to slow the spread of disinformation.»
