@babiejenks Absolutely agree. Not saying anything was perfect before, but we had outspoken goals and regular initiatives to make things better. Not even really saying it’s social medias fault... mostly what humans tend to do with unregulated power. 😕 Also, global network effects complicate.
For decades democratic countries worked on putting structures in place to help news media scrutinize power, to discourage false reporting and deter misleading information. Social media circumvented the structures and became the power itself. Lies and threats became currency.
