Stackoverflow, a question-and-answer website for computer programmers, banned use of ChatGPT in responses. The output is just generally too bad. AI-generated content was bringing down the quality of the site.

How does that phrase make you feel? What does it make you think of? No answers can be right or wrong.
In my 20s I knew very little but was confident I knew quite a lot. Today I know much more and am much more confident that I know very little.

In a recent post I first wrote âthird-world countriesâ, considered changing it to developing countries, then edited to âGlobal Southâ.
There is a lot of baggage in language that imperfectly labels entire groups of countries, while also carrying with it many negative connotations.
Then I came across Dayo Olopadâs op-ed talking instead about a shift in thinking to âfatâ and âleanâ countries. While perhaps I would have preferred the use of âbloatedâ rather than âfatâ, Olopadâs insights are worth sharing:

In the so-called least developed nations of sub-Saharan Africa, where the gross national income averages just $2,232 per capita, populations are young and hungry â at times for food, but mostly for opportunity. It should be obvious by now that âfatâ economies need to learn to be more like the âleanâ countries.

Never forget that Worldcoin is the brainchild of Sam Altman. His minions are travelling to the Global South with a crystal ball, sorry orb, and asking people to look into it, with the promise of more fortune in their futures.
The Buzzfeed story is from 2022 but the Worldcoin scam is still going strong, even if their operations were suspended in Kenya, after this:

Some of you may have seen me researching online signing services yesterday, testing about five different services through their trial accounts. One of those companies just called me up(!) and wanted to book me in for a demo of their product.
I said I went with Docuseal because itâs open source and I have control over my own data as I can self-host. âOh is that important to you, why?â, he asked. So I actually went on a rant about digital ethics, indieweb and how we are tracked whatever products we use these days.
So that sent him off on a rant about how they use blockchain and are based in the EU and no data ever leaves the EU and the data always belongs to the customer.
So Iâm like, âwell how did the fucking blockchain protect me from you calling me at 8.30 in the morning!?â*
*Hmm, I actually didnât say that last part because it just hit me when I hung up. And I have a hard time being rude on the phone. But wow I wish I did say that. Letâs just agree I did.

Last week I was reminded by Boris Kehr to watch an episode of Philosophy Tube, as it hade been recommended by Pontus WÀrnestÄl as part of his AI track on Ambition Empower.
The episode in question is named "Here's What Ethical AI Really Means". The image you see attached to this post is a mindmap I sketched while watching the episode.
The video delves into many of the topics I cover in the Elements of AI Ethics, (such as Invisible Decision-Making, Supply Chain Neglect, Content Moderator Trauma and Obscured data theft), but with flair, entertainment and perfect references to great thinkers and philosophers. And often with insightful twists and metaphorical examples related to greater societal issues of working conditions and fairness.
I will likely also be adding to my diagram after this. Most notably the topic of Digital Epidermalization deserves more acknowledgement. I also believe Fairwashing isn't talked about enough.

The production quality of Thorn's work has consistently just blown me away, explaining complex issues in an accessible fashion, with magnificent costumes and scenes. For a while I was a supporter of hers on Patreon, but lost touch with that platform and sadly lost my reminders to watch Thorn's videos. This made Boris' reminder extra valuable to me.

Ăn vĂ€rre Ă€r det förstĂ„s nĂ€r plattformarna sedan för statistik över och spĂ„rar mĂ€nniskor utan att de riktigt Ă€r medvetna om det, och bygger deras dataskuggor med stöd av innehĂ„ll som jag skapar. đł
Det stÀndiga hetsandet pÄ mÄnga plattformar att "ta hjÀlp av AI" för att skriva har ocksÄ blivit oerhört avtÀndande.
En strategi grundad i snabbhet kan jĂ€mföras med att vĂ€rma en fryst paj pĂ„ full effekt i mikron i 40 sekunder â en trovĂ€rdig yta men mer besvikelse och dĂ„lig smak ju nĂ€rmare pajens mitt man kommer. Det blev för segt att tugga nu. Och iskallt.
Det gick löjligt snabbt att komma upp i över tusen prenumeranter för det hÀr nyhetsbrevet pÄ LinkedIn: en dryg vecka. Och inte mÄnga veckor efter det var jag uppe i över 1.500 prenumeranter.

Idén var att publicera en kopia av mitt nyhetsbrev Àven pÄ LinkedIn, för att nÄ fler. Att utnyttja de berömda sÄ kallade "nÀtverkseffekterna". Men jag inser att jag gick för mycket emot mina egna vÀrderingar. Jag vill ju att mitt nyhetsbrev ska vara sÄ fritt frÄn spÄrningsmekanismer som det bara gÄr.
Det Àr förbaskat lÀtt att lockas av genvÀgarna, jag vet ju det. Och ibland dras jag med av bara farten, Àven om det Àr precis det hÀr jag skriver och förelÀser om sÄ mycket.
Det friktionsfria, det ogenomtÀnkta jagandet efter de snabba resultatens berusning, Àr nÄgot jag ofta varnar för. Jag skriver i Digital omtanke om problemen som uppstÄr nÀr vi designar för att mÀnniskor ska "slippa tÀnka".
Jag gör om och gör rÀtt
Det betyder att nu, nÀr jag samlat mina tankar, sÄ stÀnger jag ner LinkedIn-versionen av nyhetsbrevet.
Mitt ordinarie nyhetsbrev loggar till exempel inte om, eller hur ofta, du öppnar mitt nyhetsbrev, eller om du klickar pÄ lÀnkar. Jag tycker personligen inte jag har med det att göra, och inte heller att nÄgon annan plattform eller deras "kompisar" har med det att göra.
Jag skriver för att jag Àlskar att skriva. Och Äterkopplingen jag fÄr av lÀsare som svarar och skriver nÄgra rader tillbaka Àr sÄ oÀndligt mycket mer vÀrd Àn mina spekulationer om varför en eventuell öppningsstatistik ser ut som den gör. I mitt fall sÄ gynnas inte mitt skrivande av statistik. TvÀrtom.
Mitt skrivande gynnas av sÄn't hÀr, som kom frÄn en lÀsare i mÄndags:
