FYI: I will be moving away from Medium as a publishing platform and back to Wordpress only on my own domain. It feels delicious.
It seems I took a wrong turn (the signs were misleading) and sometimes it's good to acknowledge that, backtrack, and get back on the right path.
I'll definitely blog about the reasons behind this when I officially "re-launch" my blog. :)

Många av er känner till min passion för etik inom design. När en ledargestalt som Tim Brown på IDEO avfärdar medicinsk etik med tankevurpan att man då inte skulle kunna göra något nytt... ja då kan jag inte hålla tyst.

Recently Tim Brown, CEO of IDEO, received a question about ethics and the Hippocratic Oath. In his response he says: "if we made the oath to first do no harm as designers, we would likely never do anything new".
I could not let this statement go uncommented. Prominent design leaders need to be more careful in their statements around ethics.

@kimgoodwin I watched it now to get the context and this starts with the question around the 23:40 mark, around a Hippocratic Oath for designers. Unfortunately Tim, not terribly familiar with it, refutes it on the premise that he needs to take risks. Something the HO essentially encourages.
@kimgoodwin Primum non nocere (first do no harm) is a main tenet, but there is no intervention in medical practice that does not also have risk. Thus one can not avoid risky treatments. Not doing anything can be as unethical as doing wrong. It’s about involving the patient, not freezing up.
@kimgoodwin I know you’re familiar, just getting it out of my system ;)
↪ Replying to @kimgoodwin
@kimgoodwin Yeah, it’s a strange take whichever way he would like us to interpret it. He is also implying that doing nothing creates no harm. In truth, we need lots of innovation and new designs to reduce and mitigate the systemic harm that is a daily reality for many people.

Starting a thread about #wildfires of 2019. I mainly covered the ones in Sweden and California last year, and this year will see many more. I find them worthy of mentions because they are some of the biggest ever, wherever they happen.
