How Nir Eyal’s habit books are dangerous
Hired as a speaker throughout Silicon Valley and the international tech world, Nir Eyal’s appeal and influence cannot be ignored. He literally wrote the book that has helped many startups and corporations exploit human weaknesses for profit. He’d just rather they have good intentions.

@Loukas_RS Yes, I think you're on the money. What the politicians know most about is talking, debating and competing for spotlight.
And Greta is done talking, leaving them very confused as to how their special discussion group isn't valued more, because that is how they determine value.

@Loukas_RS @GretaThunberg Yes, they're all "I want some of your fairy dust to make me popular too!"
And she's like: "Get your head out of the damn clouds and get to work!"
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the way @GretaThunberg is doing this.
Don't listen to me. Listen to the scientists. Unite behind the science. Take action. x.com/thehill/status…

I just want to clarify: I distinguish between person and outcomes of actions. I'm sure Nir Eyal is a great person with an abundance of positive intent. My default is to believe the best in people and I've not seen Eyal as personally harming others.
And to make finding it easier, here is the thread with my response to @StrDesign's excellent question:

"A little-discussed aspect of Facebook’s moderation was particularly distressing to the contractors: vetting private conversations between adults and minors that have been flagged by algorithms as likely sexual exploitation."

My blog post on Nir Eyal's books is now 2245 words... I think I need to stop writing and start editing. 😅

@kolombiken This is actually not from the book but from this interview: journalismdesign.com/nir-eyal-persu…

@z_rose 😱 This is the problem right here. ”I mean, what could possibly happen? Nothing’s ever happened to me.”
”Hundreds of computer servers worldwide that store patient X-rays and MRIs are so insecure that anyone with a web browser or a few lines of computer code can view patient records. One expert warned about it for years.”

@intrepidleeloo Yeah, @Cennydd has, and I'm now working as well on a blog post that definitely will.
@intrepidleeloo Not sure if you saw my full thread... Twitter seems to not mark them as clearly today... something's off.
