I find myself reading Tom’s tweets ever more often.

@caseorganic All posts. It’s a relatively new thing on Medium and with confusing setups. You may have set your post as premium but I couldn’t say for sure. If people don’t have a Medium account they struggle to read. One of the reasons I moved away from Medium and not writing there anymore.
@caseorganic (It’s extra sneaky because if you click to articles via Twitter they’re free, which means a lot of publishers don’t realize the barriers when links are shared in other ways.)

Do you use the word ”tribe” in your business jargon? Did you go through the motions of considering how that use is perceived by others, how it may be culturally sensitive? Or did you take Seth Godin’s book at face value?
If you’ve never considered that the word tribe may be problematic, here’s a nuanced post that may be worth reading. It’s possible that you still arrive at the conclusion that ”tribe” is your best word, but then you will at least have done the reflective reasoning and can respond with insight - rather than emotion - to anyone who may question this use in the future.
Stay curious.

@beantin @caseorganic Was trying to teach an older person why they needed more than one remote control the other day. The TV isn't where they change channels anymore. But also, the few buttons that still exist on the tv are hidden away and unreadable. It's maddening and yes, progressively worse.

But really, anything available on the internet that doesn't have a paywall, but preferably RSS ;)
This post by @caseorganic is a must-read. A heads-up though that it's behind a paywall. I was sadly blocked from reading by just reloading the article.

I encourage everyone to publish blog posts on open platforms. Medium is not that anymore.😕

School teaches us to trust numbers as truth, which sets us up to disproportionately trust biased and skewed numbers that are either poorly reached, irrelevant or designed to influence us.
This is such an important post. And especially for me, as I do teach a two weeks course in ethics within design for a UX designer program. Thankfully, that amount of time does provide time for reflection on several of the issues that Alastair brings up. twitter.com/acuity_design/status/1…

@DorotheaBaur What I wouldn’t give to perform this study in the senate bathroom...
I’ve done plenty of observational studies in restrooms at the airport, restaurants and bars. The number of men, all ages, who just don’t wash their hands is mind-blowing. These are also not people you’d expect to understand the science behind climate change.
”People just wash their hands because that's what they see in films.”
Gah, I wish I hadn’t gone down this rabbit hole but @rodellaroficial did do the job of asking people WHY they don’t wash their hands:

@JesperBylund Exactly, I have relatively little experience in being vulnerable and taking risks.
This podcast episode about e-waste should be compulsory listening for everyone in tech. by @dsgntmrrw #digitalethics overcast.fm/+OX7RYdE3Y
Wow, I’m really struggling with a thread right now that became deeply personal. Just taking a moment to recognize that if a privileged individual like myself can have trouble speaking up, I can not even imagine the difficulty for marginalized and vulnerable individuals. TBC.
A story to follow. x.com/thenextweb/sta…
You’re all aware that navigation app @Waze allows people to alert each other of police presence, right?
This feels very much like a political decision by @Apple, although it now appears they have reversed the ban.
