@eyesondesign00 Thankfully this particular scam seems more intent on getting people to download crap rather than infect...

@eyesondesign00 Wow that website is malware... one of my clicks gave me this. (I'm on my iPad so the scam is even more clear).

Design is an exercise of power. The only way to design with moral intent is to involve those affected by that power and provide them with control over outcomes. Improvements to wellbeing happen when power is shared.
This is the most beautiful piece of content I have consumed in a long time. If you give it a listen, do it away from your devices. Make a conscious decision to give it your attention. Perhaps even with your eyes closed. open.thecorrespondent.com/603/now-listen…
Ultimately many will reckon with this question: am I willing to give up, even oppose, something that provides me huge benefits to support those who are harmed by the same thing?
Introspection and value-finding can lead to answers that support one's own wellbeing.
People are saying you're the product. I believe that's a bit too simplistic. I think Jaron Lanier nails it:
"It's the gradual, slight, imperceptible change in your behavior and perception that is the product."
It's about autonomy.
(Yes I'm watching @SocialDilemma_ )
Reminded of the quote "The best way to predict the future is to create it."
Tim Kendall: "It's plain as day to me. These services are killing people. And causing people to kill themselves."

Good walkthrough by @jeffseibert:
"Simply put, these aspects of today’s global chaos are each a direct, rational result of trying to make money from ads."

This is a good time to share @mariafarrell's The Prodigal Techbro. conversationalist.org/2020/03/05/the…
This piece by @gleemie and @ruchowdh is also ever timely and relevant.

Focusing instead on how existing inequalities intersect with technology would have opened up space for a different and more productive conversation.

This March was the first time I watched myself along with the audience at a conference. It was at UX Copenhagen, a conference that during a pandemic outbreak managed to move online in record time and without a glitch. A hugely impressive feat in the beginning of this year.
I had written a new talk for this conference and beginning in a story of abuse I try to provide a framework for thinking about compassion and care online, drawing from the field of medical ethics. I called the talk First, Design No Harm.
Organizer extraordinaire Helle Martens recently published the talk on the UX Copenhagen YouTube channel.
Huge thank you to everyone supporting me as I keep exploring and sharing within the realm of ethics in design and digital.

Ooooh, time to pay taxes!
Free university, social insurance, 480 days parental benefit per child, universal healthcare, free dental until 23yo. It’s not perfect - never will be - but it’s a good direction. Paying taxes is cool. 😎
Reminded of my late mother-in-law getting a call from a company offering to help her with tax avoidance techniques. Her response: “No thank you, I love paying taxes.” And hung up (which at that time was a more embodied experience of slamming a handset down on a switch hook).
We have a world full of processes that create no value. But if we keep making these valueless processes more efficient we can create the illusion of value. The illusion of value makes the world go round. And under.
Welcome to the future. twitter.com/norareed/status/130430…
So Mandy Patinkin made me cry this morning. Did not see that coming. 😭 x.com/PatinkinMandy/…
'Taking many forms — from violent threats and digital surveillance to sexual harassment and the sharing of intimate images without permission — online abuse can have a devastating mental and physical toll on women and girls.' x.com/webfoundation/…
As abuse skyrockets, platforms are less and less able to deal with reports, and "social media moderators have been sent home, making content moderation more dependent on imperfect artificial intelligence tools. "We have fewer people available to review reports" says Instagram.
