I love that this is how @LinkedIn's post about their new look-and-feel appears in my mobile browser.
It's very on brand.

This is so spot on I feel embarassed for not seeing it this clearly before. x.com/ProfSunnySingh…

@Terejs Eller träning. :) Men jag skulle kombinera med whiskey.

People don’t generally have time to listen to why I avoid using Zoom for meetings, but now I wrote this blog post to not miss any points. Imagine all the time I’ll save! 😅
axbom.blog/avoid-zoom/
In my research for this post I came across one aspect I’d previously missed. Apparently teachers often post photos on Twitter of their Zoom classes without consent from students.
Zoom was retweeting these to give them more visibility. 🤦

Zoom got off without paying a fine here and now:

A reminder that Zoom still hasn't published the transparency report they promised on June 30.

Of course, moral concern is never a prerequisite for profit. As long as the right people are benefitting they sadly won't object on behalf of those on the sidelines.

And here is the reward for all these harmful, misleading actions. Eric Yuan, CEO of Zoom, is now one of the 100 richest people in the world (he was already a billionaire before Covid-19).

@AdobeCare Hello NR, I thought we were in agreement that I had cancelled already. How many of these tweets are automated and how many are human?
↪ Replying to @lisasallvin
↪ Replying to @AdobeCare
@AdobeCare Thanks NR. Also, I worry that you imagine people actually fail in in their intent to cancel and why that may be. Is this because this tends to happen on the regular?
(Not expecting you to be allowed to answer this.)

@JaredFossey @andend_co Yes, it’s so obvious isn’t it… this experience makes it less likely I’ll return as a customer or recommend to others, not more.
I'm pretty sure this design is used for anyone wanting to cancel a subscription. Don't worry about me, I made it through. ✌️
Happy to host a workshop about a better way of doing it though. x.com/AdobeCare/stat…

@yessshir @Adobe @AdobeXD So much this. I'm waiting for them to ask me how likely it is I would recommend them to a friend.
Good thread on @SocialDilemma_ - Shoshana changed my mind on several points. Her point about misinformation in a doc about misinformation is 🔥 We need to define addiction, marketing and advertising when talking about them. And obvi not let these dudes control the narrative! x.com/swodinsky/stat…
To be clear, these were not the points I changed my mind on ;) I never thought these guys should control the narrative. 😑
I wrote about the need to nuace 'tech addiction' last year.
axbom.blog/tech-addiction/
What she did change my mind on was Lanier's description of gradual changes in behavior being the product. We also need to remember that we still carry autonomy. Our sense of wellbeing is part of a larger societal picture and the success of these platforms are not in a vacuum.
Also, Don Draper. None of this is new. But the power is globalized, centralized and with more privacy issues. I always think of it as as the extreme version of Hidden Persuaders (that 1957 book by Vance Packard).
So this is how it's gonna be now when cancelling, @Adobe @AdobeXD. FOUR pages (!) of holding me back and trying to convince me to stay? These practices are an embarassment to the design industry.

Seeing reports of people's following lists on Twitter suddenly dropping to zero over the past hour or so. What's going on?

@tsvenson @RachelWenitsky Some people in responses to Rachel did think it was real. Some have since deleted their tweets.
This made me LOL. But also weep. Where is that laughing crying emoji again? twitter.com/rachelwenitsky/status/…
