@muppetaphrodite Cool! Not that I’m personally aware of, but I can ask around. Would love to treat you to a fika on Friday if you have a break during the day.

@janeruffino The basic art of listening seems to be an endangered species. 😞
You may want to be sitting down when you read this.
« But the real meaning of the report is not “climate change is much worse than you think,” […] The real meaning is, “you now have permission to freak out.” »

One of my biggest beefs with the Swedish language is the lack of words to differentiate between efficient and effective.
Both these are regularly translated using the single word "effektiv".
Thus making it hard to differentiate "doing things right" and "doing the right thing".
The importance of this distinction truly illustrates how language can be a barrier to advancement. And boy, does language stand in the way of equality, but that's another story.
(yes, word choice intended to exemplify said point)
Growing up (and into adulthood) I thought "getting your just deserts" was "just dessert"*. So you only got for dessert what your behaviour merited. It still makes complete sense to me.
*And I know I wasn't alone.
The original meaning of "desert" (pronounced exactly as dessert but more often used in plural) is of course "deserved reward or punishment".
With all my reading on ethics now I realize I'm at a crossroads because some say that "deserts" in that sense is obsolete. And dessert is more fun, and inclusive. When do we claim the meaning of a word has retired?
(I'll likely use both.)

@DrisOne78 I personally haven’t seen those arguments work to my benefit. But showing pictures of people with names and short bios, asking who they want to exclude, tends to create uncomfortable fidgeting. And then we can have a discussion around why that is uncomfortable.

@jessicaivins That’s fair, and probably why I felt the need to add ”sometimes”, but I’ve been in so many meetings where people argue that we can’t afford to design for 2% of users it’s making me stressed out. I’ll likely stop responding with numbers and see where that leads me.
New leadership in Stockholm city hall is set on putting an end to Apple’s plans, 3 years in the making, of a flagship store in the prominent, centrally-located, public park Kungsträdgården.

This could be the best goddamn text on the subject of the world wide web I have ever had the good fortune of reading. Add it to your bookmarking app now (to never lose it), go pour yourself a cup of tea and then return to the article. Enjoy. twitter.com/sonniesedge/status/981…
Sometimes when people ask for precise figures around certain disabilities, I realize it’s because they’re looking for a number that can support their idea that these people do not matter.
Sometimes when I daydream I am on this road. I spent many meditative moments on Bagamoyo Road, back and forth between school and home. Back then there was no asphalt and no 4G billboards. What might it look like in another 25 years?
