Your daily dose of tracking insights. As @sara_ann_marie put it, if you’ve been paying attention this shouldn’t be a surprise. So yes, it would be good if fewer people were surprised by it.
And remember, it doesn’t matter if you have a Facebook account.

Have you ever quoted the Stanford Prison Experiment to make a point about human behavior? Have you also read this?

@dblumx Thank you David! Looking forward to seeing you! I remember your tweet from 2016. It meant a lot to me. And is actually quoted in my Teaching section on my website: axbom.eu/#teaching

@5u5anCarey Someone apparently(?) had the idea at one point to detect broken glass with it. Never implemented. Now it's being used to activate Google's virtual assistant.
A clear understanding of the goal will allow you to use a multitude of tools to get there.
Using the same tool over and over in hopes of achieving goal-fulfillment will many times turn out to be slow, costly and miss the target.
Do not make a plan with a single path to success. Make a plan so that there are many paths to something that isn't loss.
I mean will it ever stop? #designethics
"Nest users didn’t know a microphone existed on their security device to begin with. The existence of a microphone on the Nest Guard [...] was never disclosed in any of the product material for the device."

How can a device have a microphone that is not supposed to be a secret AND THEN IT IS NEVER EVER MENTIONED TO THE CUSTOMER?
"Let's build this cool feature." A year later: "Oh wait, did we forget to tell anyone about it?" said no product company ever. Until now.
Now two days in Zürich for World IA Day teaching the topic I am most passionate about. Starting with a half-day workshop tomorrow Friday. So happy that this subject resonates with others, and thankful for the opportunity. #designethics #wiadch #wiad19

"Internet cable in the hard drive."
The huge data leak of private medical phone calls in Sweden is a real stunner in terms of understanding the chain of events. Here is my translation of one statement. It's an actual statement by the provider.

@emanuelkarlsten @mediepodden Du gör detta väldigt, väldigt bra Emanuel. Stor eloge.
Always start with content. Always. It's when you have the content that you can figure out how design can support the goal of the content.
And yes, producing content is design too (like when I added that extra "Always"). All I'm saying is: just start with it.
I realize people will respond saying "But Per, don't you always say we should start with listening." And yes, obviously. But this is the format of Twitter, and - for clarification - what I mean is: when you start making anything, start with the content.

@arodericks @spydergrrl @hootsuite Yeah, and Hootsuite's stats were for the US. Ideally it would be interesting to see the demographics for English-language users.
Trivia: Sweden being such a small country I know that I've actually been excluded from online stats produced about Twitter in Sweden. 🧐

@JRDPA Yeah, I don't even know how Facebook works anymore. It frustrates me every time I go in there!
A while back @MrAlanCooper shared an article about device that fits on top of the Amazon Echo and takes control over it, so that it can't listen unless you say so. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Trying to find an answer before Alan wakes up ;)

A surefire way to identify organizations who have no plan for actively listening to their stakeholders, customers or users:
They use a noreply-address for sending out their e-mails.
