A friend was at Target today. Woman in front of her in line can't remember the pin to her card.
Woman to cashier: Can you look up my pin? I shop here all the time.
Then, turning to my friend: Do you know astrology? I think it's my zodiac sign.
Together they figured it out. 😂
The wildest thing about this story is that it wasn't my friend who had lost their pin. This is a person who unwittingly once left a gas station in someone else's car, who had also left their keys in the ignition.
Some stories I have like this I can't even tell, because even the anonymized version of the story contains enough data points to reveal someone's identity.
Honestly, the lesson to learn here is that we're just human, and the foolish behavior is us expecting everyone to understand the ins and outs of tech enough to stay safe. Which is why the tech itself needs to come with better safeguards against harm.
Not everything is a problem to be solved. Sometimes you just have to be with a person as they share their grievances. Don't suggest. Don't object. Don't solve. Just be. Presence is what nobody went out of their way to give them.

@inkblurt Don’t just learn active listening but exercise it, always, to keep that listening muscle in shape.

@oscarheed Ah yes, teaching the AI to forget faces.
"Anonymous face recognition." How is it not obvious that this is an oxymoron? #doublespeak

@thepixelgrid I'm not gonna judge, I've been there. 😂
Heard someone yesterday moan they were now closer to 30 than 20. I said I know exactly how they feel, I'm also closer to 30 than 20. 😝

↪ Replying to @tsvenson
@tsvenson Jag är högst tveksam till att svenska myndigheter klarar av att skydda vår mest personliga information. Tycker att digitaliseringsministern har en hel del att styra upp där först.

@Hilaryonline I will need more details about that at some offline point in the future ;)

@Hilaryonline 🙏 I was actually very nervous about publishing this.

@Hilaryonline When I saw you write this I thought maybe I crossed a line.. 😬 but then you also retweeted so I'm gonna treat the retweet as affirmation of "approval".
When I wake up I sometimes interact with the night-time Twitter of USA. And it helps to realize what different moods people are in night versus day. In the late afternoon, day-time Americans are in morning mood when I'm tired from a day of work. Perspective helps.

@berkun I know, it's impossible to design anything for designers. But it's something we have to live with.🤷♂️Or add massive disclaimers... :)
