⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
@nlsp Still, these are good examples to add to the checklist. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
I'll be heading over there tomorrow to put my hobbyist search skills to the test...

⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
This is a potential risk factor, that there would be a "twin" card activated in some way. Not specifically related to Apple though I don't think.
A new phone, number and provider are in the works.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
@chris This was my thinking as well. And this part may solve itself (in the short term) as my friend is getting a new number and provider shortly.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
@maloki Yeah, I now feel like I have to visit my friend's home today and triple-check everything with access to devices.
It's just incredibly infuriating how many ways all these "smart" things can mess up people's lives and put them in real danger.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
Been helping a friend reset all passwords, create new accounts, reinstall software etc. to feel safe from an ex-partner.
A situation has ocurred where the ex has called up an old relative of my friend an hour after my friend called them for the first time in a long time.
What are possible sources of "last number dialed" in an Apple ecosystem that could be taken over by a third party? E.g. smart home devices.
Just looking for more thoughts on abuse vectors.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
My friend's immediate reaction, understandably, was to turn off Apple Homepods that were a gift from the ex. I looked at this and doubt they could be related to an event like this, but I may have missed something.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
Oh yeah, and the ex is an infosec specialist. This of course makes the possible ways of tech abuse practically infinite.
Replacing everything with new stuff is not really an option though it sometimes feels like the only way to go…
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
It strikes me how naive I myself am when considering that some of the stuff I'm looking at would need bluetooth access, and at first I dismissed that since it would require close vicinity access.
Who's to say the ex hasn't gained close vicinity access?
It's just that some things are so horrifying to think that our brains don't lead us there. But we need to practice thinking this for more tech safety protocols to be implemented.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
Also, FYI.
I first started helping around this almost a year ago. Many things have happened along the way, and we have both learned a lot. And my friend really wants to help more people deal with situations like this. We'll likely be working on some sort of guide together in the new year.
I'm half-expecting someone to come up with the novel idea of federation for newspapers and invent RSS and Pingback/Webmention all over again.
Blogosphere 3.

@gustav Stort medhåll (till dig alltså, inte Patrik 😅)
I'm not a dev but I managed to figure it out :)

Have no idea what I'm supposed to do with regards to the canonical urls though?
The Knight Foundation's online event on Democracy in the Digital World is ongoing.
Looks like you can still register.
Coming up is Frances Haugen and Jeff Horwitz in conversation on tech whistleblowing, journalism and public interest.
Later on Yoel Roth, Twitter’s former Head of Trust and Safety, gives his first in-depth interview since resigning from the company.
If you're curious, the agenda and registration form is here:
⚠️ Mastodon meta (verifying websites)
@Janne I believe the most common mistake I see people do is to just wait for the link to be verified.
The verification is only checked when you enter the web address into your profile and press the save button.
So if you have already entered the web address before you add it to the page, you need to re-enter the data in your profile and save again for the check to kick in.
@taylorlorenz Lovely, they have their own definition of everyone.

In the same manner as it is often exclaimed that "This meeting could have been an email", I often frustratingly declare: "This app could have been a web page."
@thespoonless Thank you for sharing. 🙏
@teruki Same to you! 🕯️
Thanks. Just a heads up that the graphic has been updated after this. The most recent version is always here:
