😊 Believe it or not I never had one of those. I went Sinclair ZX81 > Dragon 32 > Atari 600 XL
The Atari is what I had when all my friends did C64. But then after that I had the Atari STE for desktop publishing and making magazines, which was great.

I remember debates about choosing to design for desktop sizes of 800x600 pixels or 1024x768 pixels. And being limited to 216 colors.

I've now come across the diagram from my blog post with Mastodon tips in several places with no attribution and the source info deliberately cropped out of the picture.
People write "Oh I just found this somewhere" but no word on where they found it. Apparently it just appears on people's computers out of nowhere 😂
Anyway, I updated the diagram. And people who actually do quote the source will help people find updates in the future.

Yes, the text for that last box was worded in a confusing way. I’ve fixed it now on the original post. Still confusing for a lot of people but at least more correct 😅

Boost it :) If you boost it, it becomes part of your timeline that everyone will see.
If someone doesn’t follow you, they will see the boost in the federated timeline (if they are on your instance)

I see people linking to Twitter and saying sorry for linking to Twitter.
One way to make Twitter content available without exposing people to big tech tracking is to use a Nitter link instead.
Nitter is a free and open source alternative Twitter front-end focused on privacy and performance
One quick solution:
Replace twitter.com with nitter.net in your link.
There are also more instances of this free software if you explore further.

Public sector. As always I think it’s a little bit of both. They don’t see the potential of smaller research efforts, always thinking about “big usability tests” which don’t get funding. It’s of course always possible to talk to people, the way I see it.

And the problem of course is not only about the bad practice. It’s about them not connecting with the why of what they’re doing at their job. And their confidence and wellbeing suffering because of it.

When posting there is no way of knowing what trauma, illness or distress the reader is going through at the moment.
But likely they chose the Fediverse because they also wanted to participate in social messaging online.
I would argue that assuming that everyone needs to see something is not compassionate or caring.
Content warnings are a blessing in my mind.
