Brukar du falla för knepet att rösta med en reaktion?

När du "röstar" skapar du förstås mer engagemang och synlighet för inlägget, vilket kan vara smart, lekfullt och kännas ganska harmlöst.

Det gäller dock att komma ihåg att dessa enkäter oftast inte alls är tillgängliga för personer som använder verktyg för syntolkning. Det innebär bland annat att en del personer påminns om att de återigen inte får vara med och tycka till, för de ser inte frågan eller svarsalternativen. Tyvärr har LinkedIn en tuff begränsning i antal tecken för beskrivning av bilder, så all text för att beskriva en sådan bild får sällan plats.

Men om man verkligen inte vill använda den "poll"-funktion som LinkedIn redan har, så kan man skriva direkt i inlägget, som jag gör nedan.

Nyheter i Clubhouse.

APP-UPPDATERINGAR den 12 MARS för beta-testare (alla som använder appen just nu):

• Det är nu möjligt att bjuda in genom att skriva in telefonnummer, och man behöver inte dela sin adressbok.

• Man kan dela länkar till profiler och klubbar.

Till exempel:

• Språkfiltrering. Appen försöker förstå vilka språk man föredrar och primärt visa rum på dessa språk. Jag tycker förstås det vore bättre om jag fick tala om det själv.

• Knappen "Report for trolling" är omdöpt till "Report for disruptive behavior". Trolling var mycket riktigt för vagt. Man säger också att man förbättrat automatiserade sätt att upptäcka oönskade beteenden.

• Du kan nu deaktivera ditt konto direkt från appen. Oklart dock om deaktivera och radera (som GDPR vill att man gör lätt) är samma sak.

• Om man bjuder in någon till en grupp (som inte har Clubhouse sedan innan) så kommer gruppens namn vara det som indikerar hur personen kom in i Clubhouse, på deras profil.

Interesting study by pCloud, based on the new Apple privacy labels featured in the App Store, which categorises all the information that can be collected on users by apps into 14 categories, and how they're used.

While the worst offenders are no real surprise (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) I think Uber Eats deserves a mention as most people do not consider how much data is collected and shared by food delivery apps. DuoLingo, TikTok, Reddit, Snapchat and Spotify are also up there.

On the other end of the scale, tracking and sharing 0% data, I'd like to give an honorable mention to Google Classroom (a bit of a surprise but thankfully also understandable) and Clubhouse. Clubhouse has received attention, including from me, on how they collect phone numbers - and for vague terms of service when it comes to data storage. As of yet they however do not track you or sell your data like many other apps, which is worth noting. It is however new to the game and what the future brings is anyone's guess.

Among some of the safest apps, from a data tracking and sharing perspective, you'll also find Signal (no surprise), Netflix(!), Microsoft Teams, Skype, Telegram, Zoom and Discord.

Just published: The Elements of Digital Ethics.

A diagram to help guide moral considerations in the tech space.

I've been working for some months on this diagram as a summary of the many ways digital holds potential for negative impact (follow the link). Alongside the diagram I've provided a brief summary of the meaning of the currently six sections and 32 elements.

I am not an opponent of digital. I am a proponent of responsible innovation. To make responsible choices you need to understand what could go wrong. The diagram is not meant to dissuade but rather to make aware and encourage more careful and considered choices in a digital world. Feel free to use the diagram as an everyday tool, as a conversation starter and as an outline for teaching.

Digital ethics refers to a form of applied ethics wherein organisations and professionals work with the intent to eliminate and mitigate harmful outcomes that result from their work with digital products and services. It is a practical application of moral considerations in the tech space. The diagram outlines topic areas that contribute to moral dilemmas that are relevant for examination in the practice of digital ethics.

Today I have listened in on #Clubhouse rooms with participants who

* have speech impediments after traumatic brain injury (TBI)

* are deaf / hard-of-hearing

* are blind or have visual impairments

Here is what I have learned:

Rooms are much more inclusive when people who speak always start by saying “This is NAME” and when they are done speaking clearly say “I am done speaking.”

Here is why:

A) Some people use closed caption systems that transcribe speech to text. Without expressed clarity on who is speaking there is just one stream of text without context, because these systems rarely differentiate voices.

B) People with speech impairments do not have to worry that people are politely waiting on them to finish when they are in fact done. They also aren’t interrupted before they are done. There is less confusion and people feel more safe when chiming in.

C) Generally, this benefits everyone as i) people do not talk over each other or interrupt each other unnecessarily and ii) it’s easier to follow along if you have your phone set aside and are not watching the “stage” or iii) when two people’s voices are very similar.

Tip: This habit can improve all meetings.
