I am talking about all of it. And definitely about the love for javascript libraries that manipulate the dom in unpredictable ways, about the use of bloated code and images, about the carelessness with regards to accessibility, about confusing web forms and chatbots, and captchas…
I should blog. 😅
When I was a young and naive web designer in the late 90s I assumed we would get better at building inclusive and easy-to-use websites.
I would have screamed at many of the implementations I see today.
I had not anticipated how lucrative it appears to be to scale garbage and ignore quality.
I hate to think how much ai-generated slop I’ve been forced to read over the past two years…
“Oh, look at how funny this is!"
It’s not.
Imagine getting the chance to travel the world and have face-to-face conversations with all the amazing people you’ve met on social media over the years.
That would be the dream.

A transcript of the dialogue is made available here for accessibility purposes: axbom.com/bluesky-bunk...
Addendum: I’ve written background and context for the Downfall meme, alongside a transcript for the Bluesky bunker video, to make it accessible to more people.
I also explain why these memes are so popular and how they can be seen as a tribute to the original film.

This is activist Elin Wägner in front of the 351,454 signatures required to adopt women’s voting rights in Sweden’s general elections – finalized in 1921. This was later than Finland (1906), Norway (1913) and Denmark (1915).
Tangible signatures really served to highlight immense efforts.

This point: "how algorithms exacerbate inequality, even when not specifically programmed to do so", I really want to explain more in my next article. If you know of good examples, let me know.
Many variants are exemplified here: axbom.com/bias-in-mach...
@axbom.com: The algorithm has been in place since 2013. I doubt it’s legal. The defense is “our model doesn’t discriminate" An inability to understand how algorithms exacerbate inequality, even when not specifically programmed to do so, is one of the most distressing competence shortfalls in the public sector.

💯 It's really hard to 'do the right thing' today, and we are not given time to reflect based on our own values. We keep having to adapt to technology, when it was always supposed to be the other way around.
Åsa är en så'n otrolig hjälte. Veckans avslöjande.

@asa.tsbalans.se: Innan vi tar helg, en kul liten citatspårning! Nov 2022. Johan Magnusson, forskare i informationssystem, skriver en debattartikel. Han vill att välfärden ska tänkas om så att den kan "leverera 125 % av välfärden i relation till dagens mått, med 75 % av bemanningen." www.voister.se/artikel/2022...

I keep hearing…
"Everybody needs to start using AI!"
and…
"Ha! AI is everywhere. If you're using the internet you're almost certainly using AI."
Well, job done then. Have a good one.

Exactly this! Not having any of these trackers is the only thing that makes sense to me after what we know about the misuse of data collection.
So many people also draw faulty conclusions from the data, when they fail to understand how the internet works.
And best of all of course… I get to spend more time writing rather than bothering with stats. 🥳
The Old Man S2:E1 VIII
Here we go.
I often put "AI" in quotation marks as I think it’s a flawed expression that includes everything and nothing, selling a vision of machines that do not exist. Every time I repeat it, I give it legitimacy, which hurts a little.
A fairy falls ill every time someone says "AI" with a straight face. 😉

To gauge honesty Geiger asked for info that was publicly available in the annual report. The response back was “the information you asked for is confidential”.
This is a government agency responsible for caring for humans. Sweden’s rampant abuse of power is slowly being revealed to more people.
@gabrielgeiger.bsky.social: I do a lot of FOIA and I’m used to stonewalling. But Sweden surprised me. After 3 years of telling me no, a high level official at Sweden’s welfare agency Försäkringskassan accidentally left me on cc, writing “Now we must hope that we are done with him.”
