I just started this yesterday and had no expectations. Similar experience, and will keep going.

Hehe, I hear you. Good insight. I'm also super curious to hear more about your talk now. 😊 I hope you get opportunity to present it soon.

I will now forever worry that they "fact-check" and respond using ChatGPT.

Exactly. Just the other day I was thinking I was too much on the nose in my AI Ethics diagram when I called out "It will kill us all!" so clearly. 😬

Geoffrey Hinton winning a Nobel prize was not great for educating on the real risks of machine learning.
Commentators on tv and radio here in Sweden are now on and off continuously about AI having to be reigned in because it’s getting smarter than us.
Anyway, today is the Nobel Day.
I subscribe to an image bank because I want to support creators. Now even the image banks are pushing ”AI” for just about everything. 😩
Recommendations for ethical image banks that have creator/artist/photographer wellbeing in mind are welcome.
The book I’ll be reading over the holidays.

Couldn’t agree more. And an astounding example here also of Newton responding reflexively without reading.
@liedra.net: As a subscriber to @caseynewton.bsky.social’s newsletter and an AI critic/sceptic, I’m actually really cranky about the way Casey portrayed @garymarcus.bsky.social and the field that rightfully questions the hype, legitimacy and real world impact of LLM systems. It was a classic straw man fallacy.

At first the entire piece felt fake, but then seeing Newton double-down like this and responding without reading, and failing to give examples of people who argue the way he posits, is just all very unsettling.

I very much agree, but just the idea of this going on also makes me feel nauseous…

Right? Like he reveals tomorrow it was an experiment.
Finally read that Newton piece after everyone else. I mean, it's so bad it feels computer-generated. Bizarre, really.

När man ser film känns det ibland som att det är overkligt när allt ska klaras i sista sekunden, men verkligheten är fan rätt ofta i paritet. Galet bra bedömt och agerat. Hatten av.
