Cory Doctorow really has a way with words, here explaining enshittification for a mainstream audience – and why it happens. Mastodon and Bluesky get a shoutout at the end.
Sidenote: I'm still fascinated by how the US beeps certain words in their broadcasts. What other countries do this?

Det sjuka är att jag såg det också först nu precis när jag testade. Vilken miss. Men jag har ju bara postat här just nu, så ingen ko på isen. Uppdaterar ikväll 😂

I love the idea of data walks. Would love to organise these in Stockholm.

“Men kött har ju, av någon outgrundlig anledning, blivit väldigt polariserat.” säger landsbygdsminister Peter Kullgren (KD) till SvD och lägger i samma stund ut ett Facebook-inlägg där han står med en korv i munnen och skriver “Alltid retar det någon. Trevlig kväll 🌭”. 🤯

Interesting, I've never encountered clients where it's prefilled rather than just canned suggestions you have to tap.
I’ve found myself reacting and doing a double-take on some replies to messages that I get from both friends and colleagues. Are they using ”AI” to reply to me (or in group chats)?
1/3
When the whole world is morphing into an uncanny valley where I no longer know who I’m talking to I really don’t feel safe anymore. I don’t straight out ask because I feel rude doing so, and I also think I’m terrified by the potential of being right.
2/3
But, are you aware of people close to you using ”AI” for wording replies to friends and colleagues?
There is of course also a chance I’m just over-analysing and being completely off-base, but that is its own little problem brought on by this tech.
3/3
Addendum… Now that I just posted this I instead feel really naive in not having already taken in that lots of people do this.

Well summarised, thank you. I've been struggling to write for a month now, a lot of it due to just feeling I have to fight the "AI" storm when I'd rather do almost anything else. You are so spot on about the impact of the pop and needing to prepare. It's all just so infuriating.
In one of my first talks about human rights and AI (2022) I used the widespread printing press reference to emphasise that in many cases it supported colonialism.

This text really breaks down common printing press misrepresentation. Love it!
@sonjadrimmer.bsky.social: What, exactly, does this string of words mean? Why does everyone who stands to profit from selling "AI" love to repeat it? And what's the value of slogans that masquerade as history? sonjadrimmer.com/blog-1/2025/...

In case you were, like me, wondering why Sarah Kendzior suddenly disappeared from Bluesky.

The official statement from Bluesky. Note how they are managing a post that is a month old (and misdating). They also claim to have been in contact with Kendzior at the time of the ban. Meanwhile, Kendzior at first had no clue as to why she couldn't reach her account.

@safety.bsky.app: The account owner of @sarahkendzior.bsky.social was suspended for 72 hours for expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article. The post, made 11/10, stated: "I want to shoot the author of this article just to watch him die." 1/2

ALL my websites were down for just over an hour this morning. Sorry about that if you were looking for info on any of them.
I run about 12 websites off my Cloudron server and my redundancy could be better. Something to invest in in the new year.
Seems I'm having Nginx issues...
Now I'm thinking that waiting an hour shouldn't feel like the crisis situation that it felt like in the moment.
