My Ghost theme automatically displays estimated reading time. Something about it never sat right with me. This was a clear-cut perspective. I'll set aside time to remove it. https://toot.cafe/@matt/113060934547786252

Your regular reminder of how the Internet is far from readily accessible to everyone.

Since newspapers have become computerised, weâve welcomed spell checkers , grammar checkers, and now AI assistants, I only see more and more spelling mistakes in the news, i.e. multiple times every frickinâ day. I canât believe how efficient everything has apparently become. đ
More is better they tell me.
Tack. đ
@LeoR1010 Verkligen! đ
Waranen ska dosen Ă€ndras pĂ„ cirka tvĂ„ gĂ„nger i veckan baserat pĂ„ blodprov sĂ„ hĂ€r i början ocksÄ⊠đ
English: Tomorrow Iâll start up my rehab training at home for real. Found a couple of sitting exercise videos I'm going to try. Do not hesitate to suggest other possible sessions/activities you may have stumbled upon. I want to make this into something fun. Walking is no problem even if Iâm a bit slow. Trampoline jumping is probably the least suitable. đ

@daniel Ja den hĂ„ller fortfarande. SĂ„g precis klart. đ
@cgruenloh Oh I didn't know about that campaign. What a brilliant initiative, and what a heartbreaking story!
We definitely need more campaigns like this all over.
@impactology @stephenpa Love this thread Raghav. âïž
Something Iâve noticed about catching peopleâs names now that Iâve met dozens upon dozens of new people during my hospital stay:
In Swedish itâs just as common to say âPer heter jagâ as it is to say âJag heter Perâ. Both of those mean âMy name is Perâ. Itâs of course possible to say âPer is my nameâ in English but I donât pick up on that order of words as often as I do in Swedish.
When people enter your room and immediately say âPer is my name, hello, how are you, itâs time for your medsâ thereâs a TON of information in there. My chances of remembering the name of a new person is next to zero, unless they have the same name as me or one of my family members. And the meds part really brings focus away from the person Iâm meeting for the first time.
Making sure to lead with how you are about to say your name: âHello, my name is Perâ, pausing for my response and then continuing with âI am here toâŠâ gives me a sporting chance.
When people say âMy name isâ my alertness immediately rises as I make an effort to remember their name, because I know itâs coming. When said in the reverse itâs much too late. My alertness wasnât there.
For some reason people also tend to mumble more at the beginning of a sentence (my experience during this week), even when itâs the most important part.

@ambivalena Yeah, it's like I'm a child again, wanting to impress everyone around me with everything I'm able to do.
@ambivalena Yes very. Thank you, I'm learning to take it one day at a time. On the days I feel well I tend to overdo it, but I'm learning. đ
One thing they didn't prepare me for is that when it's quiet I can actually hear the leaflets in my new mechanical aorta valve opening and closing. It's very much a sound like a clock ticking.
And now I can identify with the crocodile in Peter Pan. đâ°
I actually take it as a comforting sound rather than an alarming one though. đ
Over on LinkedBin someone announced the release of their book. The announcement contained marketing images with text and I counted three grammatical mistakes.
This type of situation always makes me sigh heavily. But then i move on. After venting about it on another platform of course.
@steveportigal Well that post I actually wrote in English as well, haha. And you're exactly right, that was the only part that was untranslatable. The literal translation of Superman's name when I was a kid was Steel-man. So they had taken the Man of Steel part and used that.
Which made a lot of sense because it was natural to use the prefix "stÄl" (steel) to signify when someone was extraordinary. Like StÄl-mormor would be a really impressive grandma.
I still think StĂ„lmannen is a better name for him in Swedish đ And thinking that is obviously a way to joke about being old. It left me without a joke in the English text.
