I truly thought it would be more common to own your own domain name today (I bought axbom.com in 1997).
But I do realise itās still too difficult for most people to wrap their head around a domain name and how to get started.
I wrote this post a couple of years ago but Iām thinking now I should write more of a short primer specifically on why and how you should own a domain.

@gunchleoc Thanks, these were very good tips. Just adding a content filter took me pretty far. So now in the web interface I donāt see them.
But when using @MonaApp it doesnāt pick up on my filters, so all the spam is in my feed there. So itās back to relying on the web. Which is fine for now.
Gonna try the other Akkoma settings as well as soon as I have time.

In this sentence I take issue with the words āonce consideredā, suggesting past-tense. My position is that the present tense, āconsiderā, is still more applicable.

It arises when users close Word after editing and are prompted to save. Saving may delete(!)

Iāve been experimenting with Bluesky and Iām uncharacteristically tickled by how well they seem to be managing moderation, how easy it is to maintain a chronological timeline of only people I follow, and the ability to verify my own domain name for username purposes.
Worth noting is that Jack Dorsey has deleted his Bluesky account and is no longer on the board. On the board is, however, Jabber / XMPP inventor Jeremie Miller.

The idea of having to REGISTER to vote is very foreign to people in Sweden.
In Sweden and many other countries you are automatically registered to vote when you turn 18 (or of legal voting age) and never have to think twice about it.
And yes, people in prison can vote as well.
I don't know how widespread this knowledge is in countries where you have to register.
Automatic eligibility to vote of course only works in countries that enforce mandatory residency registration.

I recommend reading the accounts of people who were scammed out of large amounts of money. It gives you an idea of how these things go down and how someone close to you may be drawn in, even if not on Truth Social.
