Just have one more change I want to get right first, and that is the first load of the background image, which should go via the server the script is on.

Deras kampanj har nÀmligen fortsatt till Ätminstone för ett par veckor sedan. Nu Àr alla QR-koder helt obrukbara, sÄvida inte nÄgon hos Bris har login till bitly-sidan som styr lÀnken. Men om den behörigheten hamnar hos nÄgon som köper ett konkursbo kan potentiellt vem som helst styra om den till valfri plats.

@markwyner @ai6yr I also use DuckDuckGo. This does the same as the DuckDuckGo embed - if you open the link in a browser or session where you are not logged into YouTube. I built it explicitly for sharing YouTube videos as I donât want to force tracking on anyone when sharing a link.
The benefit of the page is that it doesnât load the video until the user specifically requests it. this allows anyone to open the link instead in an incognito window for example. It uses the youtube-nocookie domain which prevents cookies but doesnât really prevent the user from being tracked if youâre logged into YouTube. It does prevent personalised ads, it does not add to viewing history, and the recommended videos at the end can only be shown for the same channel that is already linked.
Itâs also a much calmer viewing experience :)
So itâs privacy-enhanced, but not privacy-perfect.
@markwyner @ai6yr I have this page for embedding YouTube in a privacy-enhanced way. Don't know if that works for you but just wanted to let you know.

The Wire creator David Simon was recently interviewed on NPR by Ari Shapiro. Partly about "AI". A short exchange from that is being shared all over - and it's good, but the full segment about "AI" is even more rewarding I think.

It's funny because when I captioned NPR's audio I realised the transcript on their website is wrong.
David Simon does not say:
"You mentioned that."
He said:
"You imagine that?"
As NPR likely use "AI" for their transcripts, this adds an extra layer of irony.

@rkaj I was trying to do exactly that yesterday and it didnât get it to work in all browsers, and then I just decided against it in the moment to make it consistent across browsers. I donât think Iâve fully decided yet one way or the other but I kind of like the friction that this imposes, because it lets people think more on what is actually going on.
@rkaj I may have missed it but are you not using the youtube-nocookie domain? I know itâs only partially useful but are you just not bothering with it on purpose perhaps?
So I built this web page for privacy-enhanced sharing of YouTube videos. You can try it too. In the footer, click "Convert url" and you can paste the url of any YouTube video. It will convert to my url and you can copy the link or visit the page right away.

If you're unclear on why you have to load the video before you can play it it's because the first load only loads the image, title and channel name to make the page itself load much faster.
The person viewing is then allowed to make a more considered choice before activating the video. Perhaps you want to open the link an incognito window instead for example.
One great bonus to this embed is that it shows way less ads, if any.
