The Wire creator David Simon was recently interviewed on NPR by Ari Shapiro. Partly about "AI". A short exchange from that is being shared all over - and it's good, but the full segment about "AI" is even more rewarding I think.

It's funny because when I captioned NPR's audio I realised the transcript on their website is wrong.
David Simon does not say:
"You mentioned that."
He said:
"You imagine that?"
As NPR likely use "AI" for their transcripts, this adds an extra layer of irony.

@rkaj I was trying to do exactly that yesterday and it didnât get it to work in all browsers, and then I just decided against it in the moment to make it consistent across browsers. I donât think Iâve fully decided yet one way or the other but I kind of like the friction that this imposes, because it lets people think more on what is actually going on.
@rkaj I may have missed it but are you not using the youtube-nocookie domain? I know itâs only partially useful but are you just not bothering with it on purpose perhaps?
So I built this web page for privacy-enhanced sharing of YouTube videos. You can try it too. In the footer, click "Convert url" and you can paste the url of any YouTube video. It will convert to my url and you can copy the link or visit the page right away.

If you're unclear on why you have to load the video before you can play it it's because the first load only loads the image, title and channel name to make the page itself load much faster.
The person viewing is then allowed to make a more considered choice before activating the video. Perhaps you want to open the link an incognito window instead for example.
One great bonus to this embed is that it shows way less ads, if any.

@jackeric Thatâs what I do, but I also see the problem in hybrid work meetings in conference rooms. Definitely something I also recommend, but alas not everyone has multiple monitors.
The way people share their screens in online meetings has to be a critical security issue in many organisations. Inadvertently showing their calendar or email, or demoing other sensitive content while the screen is being recorded â Iâve seen it all. Many employees need a primer on how to share their screen in a safe and responsible way.

@glennf Definitely. And this was discussed prior to my operation so I knew I would sooner or later be getting one of these devices. My operation was in August of last year (about 2 months after my 50th birthday). Iâve truly been so thankful for Swedenâs healthcare system.

@glennf That is absolutely correct. My blood coagulation level needs to be within a certain range to reduce risks of blood clots. I actually like talking about this, as I know there's always someone out there with similar or adjacent experiences who can benefit.
In other news, today was my first day learning to use a microINR device, intended to monitor my blood anticoagulation levels. The INR, or International Normalized Ratio, is a measure of how long it takes your blood to clot.
So basically this is what I do:
1. Wash my hands, make sure theyâre warm and dry.
2. Take a chip (or test strip) and insert it into the device.
3. The device powers on and I wait until it is ready (it has to heat up to a certain temperature)
4. The device begins counting down for 80 seconds.
5. I take out a a lancet and prick my finger with it.
6. Massage the finger to help form a drop of blood. đ©ž
7. Hold the blood drop against the chip/strip allowing blood to flow into the chipâs entry channel (this was the tricky part and I failed the first time, pressing against the chip which interrupted the flow)
8. The device beeps and after some time the INR is displayed on the screen.
9. I note down the INR value and assess my own dosage of Warfarin for the coming week.
After Iâve been able to do four tests that correlate with blood samples taken by professionals I will get my âblood sampling licenseâ and do all this at home and wonât have to visit the clinic as often. Yay!
Iâll still be evaluated once a year, to see if Iâm still getting the correct results.
