This is truly helpful Steve. I needed to hear some of this today.
Your examples are great because they're making me reflect on how I did not ask but allowed myself to follow the things that felt like "me". If that makes sense.
I'm thinking that's what I have to do now as well but it's going to require a bit of vulnerability that I'm working up to. "Vulnerability" has become somewhat of a buzzword but it's the best way I can put it.

I hear that. I'm also "fed up with tech" but also want to help address the many things that are wrong with it. I knew when I got into ethics it would be difficult to sell services for this specifically. I've gotten a few speaking gigs because it works for "inspiration". But actually doing the right thing on a day-to-day basis... not a lot of interest for that.
I do have a 3-week ethics course I teach every year within a UX design program. That's perhaps closer to an answer for myself... teaching more.

I guess part of it is I'm not a great salesperson and don't know how to break into some areas... like how do I approach a magazine to start writing a column, or what options there even are for working more on human rights issues.
I'm thinking too much and not "getting out there".
As I'm writing this I'm of course realising I should be using more of my UX expertise to approach all of thisā¦ *d'oh*
When you've spent 25 years building your personal brand within the field of UX and realise you don't want to work in UX anymoreā¦

With regards to the non-apology from Space Karen I would just like to point out that upon termination it would appear Twitter owes Haraldur the full amount of the agreed purchase sum for the company he sold them. Figures are floating around but they are of course unconfirmed. Thatās one reason to want him back in employment.
The other point is that mocking a person with a disability, unlawfully disclosing confidential health info, and also using that as an argument for letting them go (all this in public), wonāt play well with labor laws. And Space Karen already has a long list of investigations into his mismanagement of his 44 billion dollar trashfire.

What I am highlighting though is everyone's option to not use their services. If private conversations aren't stored there, they will have nothing to turn over. I'd argue that a service like Signal, for example, is a much preferred option.

If the door would indeed slide upwards, the wording would more likely be "dƶrren glider uppĆ„t". The word "glider" contributes to confusion here I think, but it could just as likely be the door opening in a normal way (outwards from the wall), just more slowly and covertly. I had never thought about this much so it was an interesting question š.
Swedish is very weird sometimes. I can't immediately think of a similar use of "glider" in another context. Sometimes people "glider in i rummet" and it kind of signifies that they enter the room almost unnoticeably, or they do it in a smooth way. Can't really say out of context.

Good one. It blows my mind how often I click one of these articles these days and my infographic is the chosen illustration. Iām obviously glad, but also truly surprised by how broadly it appears to have spread.
Thanks for thinking of that Matt. I did move to Akkoma because I feel it is superior to Mastodon, at least for my purposes. The interface, search, threadingā¦ it just does what I want and expect. Perhaps I especially like that it doesnāt remind me of Twitter š
That said, it does require a bit of technical know-how to self-host and the available public instances for non-Mastodon software in general are not plentiful. Also, I still call it my āMastodonā username for people to understand how to follow me. The language does constrain expectations and doesnāt encourage exploration.
I think this will be different in a year or two when there will be more hosts offering a selection of Fediverse services. Thatās perhaps where I would like to see the most movement.
I agree completely with mccās observation about apps. But Iām also a person who rarely installs apps when web interfaces just work well and do the job.
So many different types of software already do exist and more people should be trying them out. Donāt know if youāve seen my infographic with links to the variety of services: The many branches of the Fediverse.

I feel like itās getting worse by the day. The same people who said it was cringeworthy that a Google employee thought a language model was sentient are talking about a new language model as if it is sentient. Iām having a really hard time reconciling with this media reluctance to understand, and explain, what is truly going on.
Itās a glorified auto-complete. Do stop talking about it as if it is āreasoningā or āexplainingā. Or even āapologizingā.
