Rather than focus on the ill practices that occur within the mass farming industry (think Food, Inc), the filmmaking duo emphasizes an even more unsettling problem: the rapid destruction of Earth’s natural resources. While Cowspiracy certainly features stomach-turning scenes likened to those you might come across on say, PETA’s website, the film isn’t about mistreatment, but the science behind unsustainable farming and fishing and their impact on global warming, ocean dead zones, deforestation, and extinction of species.
Whether or not you consider yourself an advocate for mindful environmental practices or are a faithful vegetarian or vegan, Cowspiracy is a must-see documentary effort. In addition to being darkly comedic and at times, wittily acerbic, Andersen’s and Kuhn’s research offers an eye-opening, completely original argument amidst a saturated, sometimes contradictory, conversation surrounding the preservation of our planet.
