@feather :) Disillusioned about getting across to the right people about the importance of accessibility and making it a priority. Disillusioned about financing. Disillusioned about having people care about other people.

@feather Disillusioned about having accessibility be an integral part of design and developer education. Disillusioned about ’accessibility’ conveying the unending aspects of variations in abilities in humans. Disillusioned with widespread inability to move away from checklists.

@feather Maybe I should write a blog post... 😁

Yes, Facebook is paying $52 million in mental health settlements to moderators. Note that this is spread out over 11,250 moderators, with each to receive a minimum of $1,000 and eligible for additional compensation if they are diagnosed with PTSD.

”[…] lawyers in the case believe that as many as half of them may be eligible for extra pay related to mental health issues associated with their time working for Facebook, including depression and addiction”

Remember: the work performed by these moderators will continue, with regular exposure to photos and images of rape, murder, and suicide. FB will add more counselling and require vendors to screen applicants for emotional resiliency as part of the recruiting and hiring process(!)

Oh, and they will put up posters about psychological support right next to the work stations where the rapes, murders and violence are being witnessed. How clever.

“The preliminary settlement covers moderators working in California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida from 2015 until now.” So, also not the moderators working in other locations. That’s important. The way to get FB to ‘care’ about you is to sue them.

If anything, this should serve as an important reminder to everyone of what it takes to keep a platform like Facebook running. To spell it out: Lots and lots of ruined lives.

Here’s the story on The Verge (note that the title is somewhat inconsistent with the details in the text): theverge.com/2020/5/12/2125…

In my blog post from February there are several background links under the point (number 5) that I make about the Facebook moderator experience.

@movito Yes, but this still wouldn't be presentation mode. Theoretically possible with dual screen though, sharing the full screen of the second monitor. Or by using Airplay from a secondary Mac computer to the streaming Mac. Or virtual machine. I've looked at it all... 😂

@movito Only one viable decision possible after today. Abandon Keynote as presentation tool of choice. The flexibility just isn't there.
