@KimZetter Is there any confirmation of this tech being used? I understand how hard that would be to obtain but I really would like to see this covered more.

@meetbutterio @NicoAGrant Your web page has zero information on the company background, on platform tech, on terms of service?

@JSDBroughton It’s actually a real form (a tv service) and I just used the browser inspector to change text 😅 The dark patterns are ”natural”.

The honest cancellation form...

For those wanting checkboxes and free text fields, I used a real-word template for this from a service provider in an entirely different industry — to be representative of how these types of forms often are designed.
Also, the "Cancel" button on a "Cancel" form is on purpose ;)
To be clear: I did not have any concern for making this form user-friendly. That would be giving the providers too much credit. 😅

@kirbanita @sarahkendzior @gaslitnation Agree 💯. Also, you're not weird about wanting transcripts. I also run a podcast and many of our 'listeners' read the transcripts rather than listen. We all have different needs. Glad you can partake in Gaslit Nation this way :)
I'll be honest, when I first started listening to @gaslitnation I thought Sarah and Andrea were incredibly dark. But the facts they shared blew my mind. It took me only two episodes to realize it's more correct to say they are incredibly accurate. x.com/axbom/status/1…

Time to prepare yourself. It's going to get worse before it gets better. Don't let yourself be terrorized (or duped by "did not see that coming"). Listen to @gaslitnation - they've been seeing it coming and have talked openly about it for years. overcast.fm/+bcpDiQugU

How black squares in social media are defeating their own purpose – The dangers of good intent without foresight
A retelling of words of wisdom by @MsPackyetti
axbom.blog/black-squares/
#AmplifyMelanatedVoices
Please be advised: When you post black squares on social media with important hashtags such as George Floyd and Black Lives Matter this means that when people search for these hashtags the results are flooded with empty content. This makes it harder for the real reporting from the protests to be seen, and for black news outlets to reach their audience. Consider not using these hashtags for empty content.
It's also election day in nine states and black squares means that content about important events is now harder to find and will reach fewer people. Because it's all black squares.
This is not criticism, this is knowledge sharing. That needs to be spread further. I'm sure most people don't consider the potential negative outcomes of these types of actions. But it's now time to reflect and be critical. It's not entirely unlikely that the black squares campaign is fuelled by the alt-right.
[Update] Here is a blog post if you want to share this info: https://axbom.blog/black-squares
Here's what happens when you post black squares and use the same hashtags that are used to provide information on the protests: you drown out the real information and make it harder to find. twitter.com/supadupacurl/status/12…
