@val_brigatti Traditionally the 'longest' day of the year (summer solstice) but now celebrated on the Friday that falls June 19-25. But also, many Swedes start their summer vacation at the same time, making it the "first" day of summer vacation. Confusion is warranted. :)
Friends, there are hugely interesting services to try out in this thread. I will definitely do a write-up. But as I now log off for Swedish midsummer I'll just let you peruse the comments :) x.com/axbom/status/1…

@frbec @mailbox_org Thanks for that. Always good to have a success story to help them stay positive.

@frbec @mailbox_org How did your family feel about the move? This is one of my concerns :)

@carl_arne Nice, thank you! I did not know about the calendar in beta!
Planning to move away from Gmail (Google Suite) by end of year and start supporting small tech with a privacy focus.
What services should I be looking into (plus for non-US based). Also, any calendar management advice is appreciated (this is my primary challenge in this move).
These are some services I support today:
@whereby for conference calls (Norway).
@LiveWebinar1 for workshops and talks (Poland).
@MailerLite for newsletters and landing pages (Lithuania).
For reference, I'm just going to post this list of data sub processors that the new HEY e-mail service uses:
Amazon Web Services. Braintree. Google Cloud Platform. Help Scout. Mailchimp. Sentry. TaxJar. Zapier.
They're all US-based.

For people wondering about document collaboration, here are some links:
kolabnow.com (full suite)
graphitedocs.com (enterprise)
cryptpad.fr (best free I've found)

@amybphd @DougCollinsUX Yes! This is one of the most common questions I get at events.
I don't tell people to quit their job because that's not a thing everyone can do. I help them acknowledge that their awareness is healthy, change takes time, and there are conversations they can invite to.
"Do you have examples of ethical design?"
One reason this can feel hard to answer is that part of ethical design is conversations about what not to do. Ethical design is often invisible because the result is that harm is avoided by *not* building or implementing something.
This is a heartfelt thank you to all the designers who sparked the conversation - and listened - to stop or refrain from making the thing that would impair the well-being of another person or community. It likely happens all the time.
Ethical design can be as simple as making it straightforward to delete your online account. For examples of unethical variants, try deleting some social media accounts. :)

@DougCollinsUX You know I have multitudinous responses to this, but here's one that should be brought up more often:
The mental health and well-being of a designer can suffer immensely when engaging long-term in practices that harm others and/or conflict with personal values.

@mxbck @iamalsoandy What you're saying is that it's _easier_ to create an accessible service with the tech they're using and they still chose not to do it?
I've always had an admiration for @basecamp and this morning listened to @jasonfried being interviewed by @karaswisher.
But to see their new service being launched (Hey e-mail) with these types of accessibility issues is really, really disappointing. This is exclusion by design. x.com/NickColley/sta…

1. See the harm.
2. Build awareness of the harm.
3. Address and mitigate the harm.
4. If harm is not adressed, vote for people who take the harms seriously.
Citizens need to deal with steps 1 and 2 and 4. But when we need politicians to do no. 3, that's why we have elections. x.com/Cycling_Embass…
