A favorite story of mine is still how a friend’s mother didn’t understand when he told her on a video call to press the camera icon… and then a bit later when video started working she exclaimed, “oh I just clicked on the ‘fish’”.
Icons are never universal.
Sorry about this tweet in some ways feeding into stereotypes. I’ll always acknowledge that this has nothing to do with age or gender, but with experience and interest - and a sense of humor. My friend’s mother is not wrong.

@leojaco68 It’s interesting, because development of video solutions could easily involve the active participation of more diverse people as a regular part of weekly sprints, over video! Having developers regularly witness these difficulties with their software should contribute to change.

Nerd post. Yesterday I came home to find my 18-year old completely rebuilding his desktop computer with new parts. Hours of work and then it wouldn’t boot Windows from his old SSD. I found the solution of changing UEFI to CSM in BIOS.
Impressing my children is what I live for.
It was literally him spending hours and hours on it all, and then me stepping in for two minutes to save the day when the very last bit wouldn’t come together. .😅
To say the least, I’m actually very impressed by him.
1/5 Sometimes I receive the most wonderful notes and messages from people I do not (yet) know. I can’t begin to explain how much these notes mean to me. They are fuel for my work and efforts in reflection, creating and sharing.

When Google releases a scientific study claiming an AI successfully identifying signs of breast cancer, but won’t show how it works, that’s a problem. Because one of the bedrocks of science is ability to replicate, and how could you replicate the unknown?

Half of the world's population does not have Internet access. Of those that do, not all have capability of video calls. Of those that can do video, legal/oppressive/practical restrictions may apply (govt/social).
