Excellent to hear Iñaki. Thanks for letting me know 😊
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
@eggmont Thank you, these are all relevant things for a checklist.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
@wednesday Yes, that’s an important one. In this case I actually helped my friend create an entirely new apple id at the time of the breakup.
This was a good reminder to update the links on my page about protecting passwords and online accounts.
Logging out of other devices/sessions/apps is one that a lot of people forget:
No worries, it's also linked from the blog post so everyone can more easily find the correct web page for each tool in the tree. There are some additional ones there that are not in the tree as well.
Do consider adding an image description on the image you posted on your own blog. This allows people using screen readers to also benefit from the content.
I have provided one on my post, and you could copy that or just link to it:

@spytfyre Sorry! 😬🤓

@UncoveredMyths Yes, agree these are all important problems to address. The Apple ID is new.
The ”seeing the last number dialed” possibility is what’s bothering me the most at the moment.
I wrote about the Airtag issues when they were released:
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
@alastc Yes, leaning a bit towards that. Some sort of access to the phone account and call records.
⚠️ Cyberstalking
Related to my post on stalking, I can recommend the podcast series ’Can I tell you a secret?’
Journalist Sirin Kale gives us in-depth insights into the most wide-reaching case of stalking and identity theft in British history. WIth the longest sentencing ever in a British court for this type of crime.
A good balance of compassion and intensity allows us to understand more about the lifelong trauma that online stalking contributes to.

@nlsp Still, these are good examples to add to the checklist. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
I'll be heading over there tomorrow to put my hobbyist search skills to the test...
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
This is a potential risk factor, that there would be a "twin" card activated in some way. Not specifically related to Apple though I don't think.
A new phone, number and provider are in the works.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
@chris This was my thinking as well. And this part may solve itself (in the short term) as my friend is getting a new number and provider shortly.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
@maloki Yeah, I now feel like I have to visit my friend's home today and triple-check everything with access to devices.
It's just incredibly infuriating how many ways all these "smart" things can mess up people's lives and put them in real danger.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
Been helping a friend reset all passwords, create new accounts, reinstall software etc. to feel safe from an ex-partner.
A situation has ocurred where the ex has called up an old relative of my friend an hour after my friend called them for the first time in a long time.
What are possible sources of "last number dialed" in an Apple ecosystem that could be taken over by a third party? E.g. smart home devices.
Just looking for more thoughts on abuse vectors.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
My friend's immediate reaction, understandably, was to turn off Apple Homepods that were a gift from the ex. I looked at this and doubt they could be related to an event like this, but I may have missed something.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
Oh yeah, and the ex is an infosec specialist. This of course makes the possible ways of tech abuse practically infinite.
Replacing everything with new stuff is not really an option though it sometimes feels like the only way to go…
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
It strikes me how naive I myself am when considering that some of the stuff I'm looking at would need bluetooth access, and at first I dismissed that since it would require close vicinity access.
Who's to say the ex hasn't gained close vicinity access?
It's just that some things are so horrifying to think that our brains don't lead us there. But we need to practice thinking this for more tech safety protocols to be implemented.
⚠️ Tech abuse / Stalking
Also, FYI.
I first started helping around this almost a year ago. Many things have happened along the way, and we have both learned a lot. And my friend really wants to help more people deal with situations like this. We'll likely be working on some sort of guide together in the new year.
I'm half-expecting someone to come up with the novel idea of federation for newspapers and invent RSS and Pingback/Webmention all over again.
Blogosphere 3.
