These words mean different things depending on who you are, where you are and what you are doing.
When I direct criticism towards technology I do so because I believe that technology can be better. I want it to be better.
My conviction is that technology built with love, with kindness, is far superior to technology built with the purpose of growth.
Technology can divide communities, or it can unite communities. Technology can aggravate pain, or it can heal wounds.
It is only progress when it unites, when it heals. Being able to tell the difference between progress and erosion is crucial.

The reason I developed a communication model for AI-powered chatbots is to encourage and guide a human-centered approach to the implementation of AI-powered services and products. You can think of it as a tool that helps you better consider inclusive design, trustworthiness and safety.
Tech tools can be powerful and useful, and the chances of that are greater when we understand and design for improved human-machine interplay. Without this, even tools with the potential to solve significant problems can easily be rejected.
For example, these are the types of circumstances that will affect how a human approaches and begins using a tool:
Expectations.
How have the person's expectations been formed and how well do they match what is possible in the given situation? How can we help keep these expectations at a good level?
Ability.
Given the person's experience, knowledge and physical and cognitive capacity, how well equipped is the person to interact with the computer - for example, when it comes to phrasing inputs and prompts in a way that makes the computer produce a result they are satisfied with. How do we ensure that the tool is adapted to the operator's ability?
Context.
What context is the person currently in and might this, for example, affect their ability to act as they themselves would like. How do we work with understanding context and taking this into account?
Intent.
Does the person have an intent that we can subsequently check and verify. How do we help the operator phrase their intent?
Code.
Can the person encode their intention, linguistically, in a way that makes it, for example, distinct or useful to the computational model in a way that minimizes ambiguity. What support can help make the coding of the question more accurate?
Expression.
Does the input contain an expression that can affect the computational model in any direction? For example, this could pertain to formal, casual or childish language. How permissive or guiding should the tool be regarding these expressions?
The model goes on to describe ways of managing a computational model, in terms of "black box" characteristics, interpretation and computation (over truth).
Managing the response from the AI-powered service brings with it further parameters that we need to consider.

Jag kan rekommendera promenad-möten via telefon. Var och en promenerar på sitt håll. Skärmar behövs trots allt inte alltid.
Men absolut, du kan självklart fortfarande boka mötet i kalendern. Om man som jag länge lidit av telefonfobi så är det till stor hjälp att veta exakt när ett möte ska ske.
Det här med att våra svenska dagstidningar fortsätter använda och bekräfta gängkriminellas smeknamn och alias som om de vore gängens egna PR-byråer… 😤

In April of 2022 I plotted my escape plan from Twitter and posted the attached image. People made fun of me because I had LinkedIn on there. Then I also left LinkedIn for 8 months. And came back.
LinkedIn is a social media oddity but it has certainly become an increasingly important platform for many. And will likely continue to play an important role in the foreseeable future.
Coming back to LinkedIn also meant I made sure to have a plan for avoiding content lock-in. Which is why I post many of my longer posts here over on my blog as well. This way I ensure findability and longevity on the open web.
But the funniest thing I realised about this escape plan is that I'm not even on Mastodon anymore, I'm on Akkoma.
Of course, if you are on Mastodon you can certainly reach me there, since I'm part of the Fediverse. If there is any tech I personally am excited about at the moment (and since I made this illustration) it's ActivityPub and its derivatives.
It's far from perfect, but it's a step toward bringing ownership and power back to each individual participant.
But hey, that's honestly a story for another time. Right now I just remembered this plan, and I believe I was right to include LinkedIn.

Definitely. The abbreviation's meaning is constantly shifting… a moving target.
Om vi – i stället för att bli experter på att ta hand om människor – blir experter på att ta hand om maskiner som ska ta hand om människor, vilka sprickor i samhällsstrukturen bör vi vara vaksamma på?
Vilka avgörande mellanmänskliga relationer existerar som kanske inte får plats i en kravspecifikation för ett tekniskt verktyg?
Personalen i snabbköpet kan spela en oerhört viktig roll för det sociala samspel som många människor söker för att må bra. Frågan om brödets utgångsdatum kanske inte handlar om en verklig oro, utan snarare om att få byta några ord med en annan människa. Att höra sin egen röst. Att kanske få skratta till lite med någon.
Men det är inte det välbefinnandet vi vill hjälpa. Nej, på papperet är det rent av ineffektivt att föra det där samtalet. Det skulle förstås kunna ersättas med en maskin.
Kanske kan vi tillåta oss att kalla maskinen "personlig". Kanske rent utav smart. På senare tiden förstås inget annat än intelligent. En intelligent maskin kan minsann tala om när brödet går ut.
Jag har fått chansen att dela med mig av mina tankar om hur människor påverkas av ny teknik, och hur man kan undvika att skapa nya problem samtidigt som man försöker lösa andra. Denna gång är det med AI i blickfånget, och jag kommer även hjälpa till att skapa förståelse för vad verktyg som ChatGPT och andra språkmodeller egentligen är för något.
