Geoffrey Hinton winning a Nobel prize was not great for educating on the real risks of machine learning.
Commentators on tv and radio here in Sweden are now on and off continuously about AI having to be reigned in because it’s getting smarter than us.
Anyway, today is the Nobel Day.
I subscribe to an image bank because I want to support creators. Now even the image banks are pushing ”AI” for just about everything. 😩
Recommendations for ethical image banks that have creator/artist/photographer wellbeing in mind are welcome.
Prof. Brysons response (to the UN's AI Advisory Body's open consultation for their Interim Report) is compulsory reading.

På min Speakerdeck-sida finns nu 68 bildspel från föreläsningar jag hållt hela vägen tillbaka till september 2004.
Det handlar om allt från användbarhet och tillgänglighet till web 2.0, ”AI”, etik och mänskliga rättigheter. På både svenska och engelska.
Genom åren har många undrat över varför jag delar med mig av så mycket material helt öppet och kostnadsfritt. Förmodligen för att det händer magiska grejer när jag gör det.
Människor hör av sig, jag lär känna likasinnade och jag får återkoppling som gör att jag kan förbättra innehåll och själv utvecklas. Ibland får jag höra att man har nytta av mitt material, och kanske använt sig av det i utbildningssammanhang. Det gör mig superglad.
Så om du är nyfiken är det bara att titta in. Äldre föreläsningar blir ju mer som kuriosa… ungefär: vad fasen var det vi pratade om på den tiden när det gäller internet. Jag kan definitivt också se trender i mitt eget sätt att tänka, och stora förändringar i mitt bildspråk över tid.

At first the entire piece felt fake, but then seeing Newton double-down like this and responding without reading, and failing to give examples of people who argue the way he posits, is just all very unsettling.
More and more tech giants controlling our everyday lives but not making any profits eventually has you realising that profits are not the motive. The control is the point. Money is made elsewhere, kept away from us, while keeping us all docile.
