Upgrading my server to Ubuntu 22.04. My websites won’t be reachable for the next couple of hours.
Realising that it was a smart move to put Akkoma (this instance) on its own server. I don’t like it when all my comms go down at the same time.
Hoping to get everything online again by 10pm CET. (Sunday, February 9)
All services are up again. This actually all took only about an hour and 20 minutes. I’m very relieved. 😅

I’m using Tim Hutton’s Python script to improve my Twitter archive.
* short links are changed to the original links,
* it downloads and uses the original higher-quality images,
* and gives you a markdown version of tweets for easier copy-paste into other writing.

@mensrea I my mind he has already has with many of these posts. He openly calls people stupid, and he says that smart parents don’t have many kids, because the third and fourth kid have much lower IQ.
After he has so intently moved into writing about AI, usability superstar Nielsen has certainly doubled-down on making everything about IQ.

Applied ethics is not about deciding if each action is ethical or not. It’s about never being done looking at, forecasting, evaluating and managing the impact of your decision-making. It’s about learning and becoming better at the work. It’s about being open about fails and wins, losses and repairs.

I’m mesmerised by ”The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” each time I read it. This award-winning short story by Ursula K Le Guin is a punch to the gut and forces you to examine yourself, your values and actions.
It’s a tough read and comes with a content warning of child abuse, but I so recommend it.
Where did Le Guin get the name Omelas? Well it turns out she was at one point travelling by car and saw a road sign for Salem, O. (Oregon) in the rearview mirror.

I was ill with a fever this week. Without getting into details, I’m realising that being ill post-operation feels rather different in a hard-to-describe way.
But I suppose quite logical given that my heart is working much differently than before. So my body is managing differently.

What I will say is that I’m getting huge value out of my Apple Watch. Tracking and understanding shifts in vitals is immensely comforting.
That’s of course just your average middle-age privileged white guy musing. But I’ll own it.

I remember when most people thought Twitter was weird and didn't understand how to use it.
The Fediverse is kinda in that space (in terms of UX). Give it a go and you may just grow to love it.
