Last week I was very honored to participate as a co-host in Christopher Noessel's session within his AI & Design track in the Ambition Empower program.
We had a really good and thoughtful time dissecting various perspectives of digital ethics related to generative AI art together with the participants. Don't worry, we didn't solve the future yet so there's plenty of room for everyone to have a go.
One thing that Chris mentioned to me, though, really stuck. As an expert aficionado – and also writer – of science fiction, Chris had just been informed that Clarkesworld Magazine had stopped taking submissions. The reason being that too many AI-generated stories were being submitted.
This made me do a deep dive into the world of writing fiction using ChatGPT over the weekend and I wrote up my new post: Goodbye Dickinson, hello AI-generated literature.
One find in all this was Frank White who has teamed up with ChatGPT to write the novella Galactic Pimp Vol. 1. I have a short clip in my post of his prediction for "hybrid" literature, but there is also a link to his full video describing his complete process for "writing" his book, and generating the cover. It truly is educational with regards to understanding how this all works.
If you are in any way curious about AI and agentive technology you need also to explore everything that Chris Noessel has going on. He has written several books and runs some sci-fi related websites, but also happens to be the person we have interviewed most often on UX Podcast. 😊
Now perhaps I may entice you to read my post. The main reason I chose Dickinson for the title is because she also relied on submissions to magazines – and her unique, unconventional writing style meant that there were significant barriers to entry, gender-bias included. Now you know.
